Piano, Kompakt/Kontakt and Receptor - not enough notes

I have tried setting the voice allocation as high as 256, but still when holding the sustain paedal and playing arpeggios or any cascade of notes with the pedal doen,, very quickly i run out of voices, and it does not just turn off the oldest or softest notes, like a good hardware synth will do - it stops ALLnotes until I release the sus pedal.
Is there any way to change these characteristics, or maximize the note allocation - or is there a piano with a different player host that avoids this issue?

Hi Dasher,
You might wish to provide a little more info (eg HW config, DFD settings, which Piano models, etc.). I recall seeing <a href="http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 9">this</a> previous thread, where muse was commenting on optimal DFD settings. Other people have talked about "reducing" their piano models (eg using 16 bit samples, going mono, etc) to increase playability.
For me, I was tired of trying to make Kontakt work for me, and I loved Ivory's sound and DFD algorithms. For Piano, I don't use anything else now.
Regards,
Kevin L.

Ivory is the way to go.
But if you are using Kontakt II, try using some of the available scripts for self-masking, and also for sustain resonance (as opposed to using the pedal down sample sets)
I think if you search hear, you'll find some links. Also...I think self masking is one of the scripts that Kontakt II ships with. (This prevents notes from counting multiple times against your polyphony when struck repeatedly)

Thanks for the link. DFD was turned o - I tried different basic settings, then the settings in the link, but it still wasn't really right.
Eventually, I turned DFD off and it resolved the not-enough-notes issue for Silver and JABB, but even with 2G of RAM, I can't load Virtual grand into any of my stups. No problem atthe moment, as I won't be using those pianos live, but still...

Sounds like a note stealing issue. Try this: In Kompakt Under Options:DFD settings:Expert: you have to raise the reserved voices to 248 then set the polyphony (in the main GUI window) below 248 for note stealing to work properly. I found that, for playing live, 64 polyphony was more than enough. Hope that helps.

So basically, more reserved voices than polyphony count? makes sense, I'll try that with Virtual Grand, the others are working fine with DFD off, so I'll leave it for now. Thanks for the tip.
