I have a new receptor and b4, II
manual says install it in the drop file?
(rant edited after more extensive reading)
Install b4 on my pc and just drop the installer?
It seems like this works. (edited)
do i install all of b4 on my pc, or just the vst part. Do i copy the files manually to receptor. ( i guess not)
can i then erase the pc version?
I installed the b4 vst on my pc, dropped the installer, but get " can't find templates-please reinstall ( which i did) and also a def file missing.
I guess i need to register it first. (edited)
I have never used a vst on my pc ( it's why i got the receptor). Do I need to get the vst running first on the pc, then do the drop installer thing?
So, i'll need to install everything first on pc, then let receptor bring it over?
thanks

while i'm at it, when you say instantiate, what do you mean?
dictionary def:TRANSITIVE VERB: Inflected forms: in·stan·ti·at·ed, in·stan·ti·at·ing, in·stan·ti·ates
To represent (an abstract concept) by a concrete or tangible example: "Two apples … both instantiate the single universal redness" (J. Holloway, Language and Intelligence ii 1951).
Ok, that is just gibberish.
what does it mean with respect to receptor?

When you install plugins on Receptor, it depends whether you install something which is supported by Muse or not, and whether you have a package to install or not.
With B4II, although not fully supported by Muse, they still provide you with a package to install. So you need to download the rpm package from Plugorama, drag it to the Receptor folder "Drop Installers Here", install the package from the Setup page. After that, follow the instructions given by Muse to get B4II registered and working, which involve lauching the registration tool from the Setup page.
In this case, it was a simple matter of downloading one big file from Plugorama and you didn't have to install the plug on your PC first.
However, when you want to install something for which there is no installation package from Muse, then yes, you have to install the plug on your PC first, then create a folder inside Unsupported Plugins, drag the DLL from the PC to that folder, and install it from the Setup page.
Where it gets complicated is when you want to install an unsupported plugin that requires registration before installing instead of after. Sometimes, you install a plugin and it asks for a serial the first time you launch it. These tend to work ok with Receptor. However, when the PC installation file asks for a serial and then installs the plug, then it becomes difficult to install it on Receptor since you need to get involved in advanced editing with ResEdit, not something for beginners or people who don't know what they do.
As for instantiate, just think of it as meaning launching or initiating one instance of a plugin.

hmmm..After editing out my frustration, i thought my post was useless. Maybe not.
I don't plan ( probably) on installing any unsupported plugins.
On the b4: it comes with a setupb4exe file, which i put in the drop folder along with the muse installer, but that failed.
So, do i doubleclick on the setupb4exe file after it is copied to the receptor hard drive and have it expand onto the receptor drive?
what i did was click it and put it on my pc's c drive. then ran the muse installer.
I'd prefer not to do this as i don't need duplicate installs on 2 machines.

Read my post again. To install Native Instruments plugs on your Receptor, you need to download the RPM package from Plugorama, NOT install exe installers that are for PC only.
So with B4, grab the file b4-1_1_5_1-3.mrpk from Plugorama, copy it to the folder Drop Installers Here on your Receptor, and install it via the Setup page. Then, once you've paid for the crossgrade, you'll need to install the key Muse will send to your iLok account.

I did that. Dropping the mrpk file by itself failed.( i thought maybe it would ask me to insert the dvd)
Dropping the mrpk file and the setupb4exe , together, failed.
Installing b4 on my pc, THEN dropping the mrpk file on the receptor made the recetor copy all the install files from my pc c drive and move them to the receptor drive. I was then able to get the initial reg authorization code, but haven't registered it with ni yet.
so, my question, do i have to install b4 on the pc first?
thanks for all your assistance, by the way.

No, you don't need ANY file from your PC to get B4 running on Receptor.
JUST the rpm package from Plugorama, + the key for your iLok.
You cannot register B4 using the NI registration tool. With B4 you need the iLok key supplied by Muse.
It's B4II that is user installable and can be registered with the NI tool that can be launched on Receptor from Setup/Plugin Tools if you've installed the B4II package.
To repeat one last time, you don't need any PC file, or installing on PC first, etc... with B4 or B4II. Just the package you can download from Plugorama.

well...
Thanks for the ilok info, but i'm not there yet, since i'm at work and won't be home until tomorrow.
"To repeat one last time, you don't need any PC file, or installing on PC first, etc... with B4 or B4II. Just the package you can download from Plugorama"
I did not find this to be the case, unless i did something else wrong.
______________________________________________________________________
I downloaded the mrpk file from muse /plugorama.
I put it alone in the "drop installers here" folder.
I clicked on the vga keyboard graphic "install plugin" button.
It failed. It didn't ask me to insert the b4 install cd in my cd drive.
_________________________________________________________________________
I then copied the setupb4.exe file rom the install cd, and put that and the mrpk file, together in the "drop installer here", and clicked on the install box on the vga screen.
it failed.
___________________________________________________________
I then installed the b4 as a vst on my pc, and then dropped the mrpk file in the "drop" folder, and it (i guess) found the folders in the pc's c drive and moved/copied them over to the receptor drive.
I then got the no template warning ( because it was not registered)-that's fine.
If I don't have to install the b4II on the pc first, where does the mrpk file find the b4 folders?
I apprecite that you tell me I don't have to put it on the pc first, but then where does the mrpk file get the setup data?

OK. After thinking about it...
Are you saying the mrpk file already has all the b4 vst info in it, and it was just a coincidence that it seemed to work after i installed the b4 on my pc.
That's possible i suppose.

Are you installing B4 or B4II ?
IF you're installing B4II' then yes, you need to register it. It's B4 that requires the iLok key.
If the install fails, it means there are probable some files there from your previous attemps. Remove all traces of your installation, reset Receptor by holding the MULTI key and pressing three times on the power button.
Then wait 10 minutes for Receptor to reinitialise the list of installed plugs. Put the rmp package in Drop Installers Here and install. Then, you should have the registration tool under SETUP/Pluging Tools. Launch that, follow the prompt for serial and confirmation code.
Again, you do not need to install anything on PC first and transfer it to your Receptor. You only do this for the cases when the plug you want to use doesn't come as a Plugorama package.
I cannot say anymore than what I have already told you. Good luck with the install. If it doesn't work, I suggest you open a support ticket on Plugorama.

well, I must admit i'm conflicted.
You're the only one who bothered trying to help me, so i don't want to irritate you, but on the other hand, i have the impression that you think i'm some doddering newbie who can't understand how these computer things work, and can't read.
I don't need a response but i want to try and clarify.
I never was asking about verification, initialization, authorization, serial numbers, password, or anything to do with RUNNING b4.
I was asking about installing it.( specifically expanding and copying the b4 files to my receptor hard drive.)
When i did exactly what the muse website said, it "SEEMED" to fail.
It may not have, because i never looked at the list of installed plugins.
But the muse mrkp ended up in the failed install folder and the keyboard gui said it failed.
It only SEEMED to work after i installed b4 on my pc.
The b4 mrkp file is about 27 megs.
the b4 files on my receptor is about 65-70 megs. so i suppose the mrkp files could have the b4 setup files compressed.
whatever....
as per the muse website, i authorized the b4 II and it is running fine.
So it seems we were talking about 2 different things.
Anyway, thanks for your help.

So long as you got there, that's what matters !
When you try to install something that's already installed, you will get a fail.
