Hello all,
I finally got Ivory to work, and it's fantastic. I have a couple of problems though - I can't seem to scroll down to all he presets, which means that when I create my own preset, I can't actually get to it as it it's off the page and unaccessable. The second problem is that when I reboot the Receptor, my current patch/bank (with Ivory in it) doesn't reload - I just get a blank page and have to reload the bank.
Anyone had these issues?

I don't have Ivory,, yet... but I think you are meant to use receptor's patch management (top right when in plugin edit mode) instead of Ivory's. This may help with your patches, but I'm not sure about the other problem you're having - though using receptors patch management may fix this too.

It's mentioned somewhere in the install file, or on the site, perhaps in the FAQ.
Anyway, there is a problem with the GUI as it stands with scrolling menus. You can only display 42 entries as it doesn't scroll down, so if a bank has more presets and the developer has selected a scrolling menu as the method for patch selection, then you cannot see all the presets. The solution is to use the function INC/DEC of the plugin if present, and save each preset as a Receptorized fxp. This is what Muse did for Ivory, you can select the presets via the Receptor patch management function. This problem is well know by Muse, and hopefully this is one of the fix for OS 1.6.

My main Concern is that I can't reload a patch without Ivory resetting itself to default - which means when I take it out on the road I can't select patches unless I have a screen - and that sort of defeats the purpose of having it!!

Do you mean that if you save an fxp using the function SAVE, Ivory doesn't retain all parameters when reloading the patch ? If so, then it's a bug and there is not much you can do about it.

Again I was on the verge of buying a Receptor, until I read this. Is a screen really needed or has someone invented a workaround?

This has not been my experience. My settings come back up just fine. Note that I save a Receptor patch as opposed to an Ivory patch.....ie...use SAVE in the upper corner of the Receptor gui as opposed to within Ivory.

A screen is definitely not needed on the road, but before you take the box out of the studio you MUST have an enderstanding of how it works relative to your individual needs. If you have't configured it to respond to your own music and setlists, etc. then it could be awkward, But when you have got it set up effectively, with all the sounds you need for a set (or a night) either loaded in a multi or available via patch change within a mixer channel, then it's set it and forget it.
You WILL ;ove this box, if you are willing to put in the time to get comfortable with it. I spent about a week tearing my hair out (photos available if needed) before I figured out the most efficient way of doing MY job (and a different setup for studio use that looks NOTHING like the live setups...) But even though I am still modifying this rig on an almost-daily basis, I am just finding more and better ways of getting my music out of the rig.

IVORY FAQ: Sometimes when exiting Ivory the Receptor will enter recovery mode. Workaround: Create shut down patch that just loads a LINE SOURCE. This also will prevent some rare sample bugs at start up.

Hi,
What is recovery mode? Does that mean reset or reboot, and what is a shut down patch that just loads a line source? It's sounding a little high maintaince....

Hi Phil
Congrats on Ivory + Receptor. I love it, personally. To answer your question about presets, the question is this: why are you navigating to the plug-in gui to change presets? One of the biggest and most commonly overlooked benefits of Receptor is that it standardizes ALL the plug-ins so that their presets are available from the main mixer screen, which also means they are avaialble from the front panel without having to have a monitor attached.
The answer to your question as to why you are not able to access all the presets from the GUI is that the Receptor GUI window display does not scroll. However, like I said, accessing presets in the GUI is actually far more cumbersome and slower than just grabbing them either at the top of the GUI EDIT page, or on the MIX window next to SOURCE.
You will find that all of the factory presets in Ivory are available in the Bank and Preset window next to SOURCE where you instantiate Ivory, or at the top of the EDIT window when you are looking at the GUI. The factory sounds are in <brackets> which means they are write protected, so if you want to customize sounds, you can either save them (using SAVE/FILE) to a new bank, or you can UNLOCK the bank (select SAVE/FILE, select the factory bank, and then press UNLOCK).
If by chance the factory presets didn't show up after you installed Ivory, then you didn't follow the instructions! Give us a call and we'll help you sort that out.
A lot of people don't realize that when auditioning patches you DON'T have to enter the plug-ins GUI. It is all accessible from the main mixer view, and whatever is available on the main mixer view is available on the front panel as well. And there is a left / right arrow that allows you to increment or decrement through the patches, meaning you don't even have to open another window to move from patch to patch.
The beauty of this design, in my obviously biassed opinion, is that you don't have to learn the patch recall / save behaviour of every plug-in you use -it is entirely consistent from plug-in to plug-in with Receptor. And some plug-ins, which shall remain nameless, are VERY difficult to navigate through, requiring extremely precise mousing skills. As a ham-fisted drummer, I'd prefer to work with big buttons and large patch names you can click on, thankyouverymuch.
Sorry to sound salesy, and to be so verbose, but to me this is a really big aspect of Receptor that a lot of people ignore...
