I am now starting to build soundfont libraries especially for live Receptor/sfz. Just installed the Sloundblaster, andwill be converting fonts from Gigastudio (I hope Translator will handle this, it should, though I've never tried this change.)

What do you all like for:
Brass
Strings - pad, not orchestral
acoustic guitars and electric contemporary jazz or 'smooth jazz' guitar
Electric bass
synth leads (jazz/fusion, NOT rok-alternative)
but especially - SOUND EFFECTS! All kinds - ambient, industrial, not sci-fi, but attention-grabbing...

I'll probably have some work to do to get the process streamlined, but it should be lots of fun...

On www.hammersound.net there are beautiful sound FX drumkits. I think one was "Basement Noise" and then there's "Pringles Drums." There're others. Very cool drum kits.

I've played with basement noise - nice kit. I generally don't work with drum kits, I'll reach for RMX and REX loops (can't program drums to save my life...) But it's fun to take a 'noise' kit and play regular drum parts through 'em.

Tower of Power Brass would be really nice.

What Soundblaster did you install, and how ?
I have X-FI pci on my PC, but never considered it for receptor.

i just got their cheapest card, the Audigy SE, $29 at Circus City, just so Vienna would run. I have a computer I'm dedicating to soundfont editing and fractal graphics video creation. I also have a ton of Giga samples and Translator to convert to soundfonts if I choose. A lot of work ahead, but should be quite useful when the process is streamlined.

it IS useful ... ;) I have four(!) SB cards (1xAudigy2,1xAudigy and 2xSBLive5.1) = 256 hardware voices playback, dozens of simultaneous realtime hardware FX - just unbelievable! :D

EDIT: kX drivers are a godsend
