it's about the question: do we need some kind of rule to
prevent biased votes from betatesters or devs in this competition?

Post

voted "no rule"

the best, the most, the phattest :p

all these terms are relative. i think the main concern for the voting process is preventing technical fraud (eg multiple votes under different names)... as far as psychological fraud goes (eg voting for favorite developer, voting for tested application, not voting for a developer because of dislike), there isn't much we can do. unless of course, we implement your suggested method of preventing biased votes. so let's see how this poll goes. :)

I voted "no rule" as well.

Everybody is biased and yet I hope everybody will do what they can to fairly judge the entries. I always vote for the "keep it simple" option it seems :)

Post

I went no rule as well - after all the devs and betatesters are just voters where the other plugs are concerned.

However, it might be worth doing the voting in a similar manner to the monthly contests - so that the voting is open and transparent, and it would be obvious if a dev voted for their own product, and possibly the IP of the voter should be logged to help stop any voting under pseudonyms [not 100% effective, but can go a long way with fixed links]. Anyone doing that would be going against the whole ethos of a community contest and should feel ashamed of themselves for even thinking of it tho' ;)

..and that's all I have to say about that..

voted 'no rule' as well.
Those few betatesters are not going to make a big difference if many ppl vote imo.

Post

I don't see any reason why beta testers should not be allowed to vote. I would be OK with it if devs were not allowed to vote. And I hope we have enough voters overall that the issue is moot.

why would being a beta tester make a difference? :?

Post

ok we can close this poll now, <grin>
"no rule" wins,

anyway let me just say that the "enough voters" point is logically meaningless, since one vote is enouugh to pick a winner or a loser,
10 vs 11 is the same of 1000000 vs 1000001, no?
or am I missing something?

also the "no rule" option means less fun to me,
well you may call me strange, but the fun of a game is in the rules, no rules = no game,

it seems to me that everybody here likes lottery, <grin>, or bingo, no offence, that's just a consequence:
less rules = more randomness,

that's ok to me, but I will laugh at who will tell that the winner was the best one.

At least that's consistent with the current trend of randomization features in today plugins:
random presets, random kits, random glitches in loops, LOL.
Yep it's so hard to choose something good.

You may be right, let it flow and let's see where it goes.

BTW I need two more betatesters, please PM me.

I voted no rule.

I'm less concerned about a couple of betatesters being possible biased then ppl favorizing developers that has done goood stuff before this contest.

That however is not a biggie for me either, I'm an indie dev because I like to do stuff, and this compo is dead fun since it's something we do together (although we are competing for tuz's (and other's)money).

Heck, even let us dev's vote for our own entries, its 1 vote. Though I seiously doubt that I'm gonna vote for me, I believe there are gonna be a lot of cool stuff, and its probably gonna be hard to decide on who to vote.

That sums up my feelings exactly. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the other devs have come up with. KVR is truly something special.

Well, in the first case the difference is 5% of the total votes; in the second case it's 0.00005% of the total votes.

..I thought it was binary..

I think that betatesters and devs should be able to vote... just not for their own plugin... i think it would great even for devs to comment other peoples work and vote for it if they like it...

Post

Everyone should be able to vote (once), but we should discourage developers from astroturfing for their submission (getting friends to stack votes, etc.). Honest competition is the best.

Dude, make 10 posts :)
