I don't know if it has to do with Reaper preroll or buffering or what. I didn't get that noise in Tracktion2...always something to tweak in a new host...I'll post back if I figure it out.
Gain module produces spike after hitting play before music

Hi Blue Cat - I don't know much about this one yet. I switched over to Reaper v1.71 and inserted a song which played normally. I put in some other plugs then disabled them since it wasn't the sound I wanted. Then I put in Blue Cat Gain (m/s) hit play and got a +762db spike according to the Reaper meters - good thing my 24bit sound card can't play that thing ! After the real loud one now I jest get a noticable pop - sounds like some crazy buffering problem. Even though it wasn't +762 it was loud enough...

I forgot that I have a fade in on my Tracktion2 track to fix a similar problem in the dynamics processor. I think we have a problem here. I've inserted a bunch of other plugs from various vendors and the only ones that give me a spike about 1 second before the music begins is the Blue Cat series. What could it be ?

This one was a different issue due to your "extreme" settings of the lower curve. And it occured in any host.I forgot that I have a fade in on my Tracktion2 track to fix a similar problem in the dynamics processor.
Here the issue might be different. Did you try the same plugin in Tracktion? Did you also try other Blue Cat Audio plugins in Reaper? I remember having issues with Reaper, and it seems this host is still under development and has some issues with VSTs (I remember DX versions working better).
What are your settings in the m/s gain plugin? If you have large gain values and reaper is not cleaning its buffers correctly (it cannot be the plugin as it does not use any internal buffering) it could cause horrible spikes due to the amplification.

Hi Blue Cat - I remember about the different dynamics issue - I was just trying to say that I confused myself when I went back into Tracktion2 because I forgot about the fade in at the beginning. There are many combinations to check for sure, when I installed the m/s gain plug in Reaper and Tracktion2 I hadn't adjusted the gain - so the setting was +0db.
I had to get out of Tracktion2 & Reaper for a while so I upgraded to Adobe Audition v2.0 and tried it in Art Technika Console VST (it's a long story about corruption, crashing and VST support in AA) and I don't see the problem there in the Console VST wrapper. I'm gonna take a short break from this and hopefully will have some better info for you soon...these HOSTS are kinda driving me crazy
