Receptor Pro...why so much?

I was just reading an older Keyboard mag with the Receptor advertised at $1600, and was reminded how I was so close to buying it then. I still would like to, but would like the Pro...but why is it at $2900? I know it has upgraded chips and ram and HD, but even the prices of those have gone down quite a bit.

I don't mean to complain since I know the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, it's just with the new line of keyboards coming out soon (Motif XS, PC3, M3) at pretty much the same prices, and computers using Quad cpus, I would think that a price range of 2k would seem more attractive to potential customers.

I think you have to remember that Muse is a rather small company. They probably even hand-build those machines, so more man-hours go into the Receptor that into a Motif for instance, becuase the latter is mostly machine-built.
I for one understand the prices Muse are asking and am happy to pay. The Receptor is a great machine, and has a huge potential. I think even in it's greatness right now, the surface is barely scratched. It is without a doubt far more sofisticated and powerful than any hardware synth out there right now. At least in comparison to glorified sampleplayers like the Motif series and the Fantom series.

The answer is cost, market, and profitability, and it is the same reason that keyboards from Yamama,Korg, and Roland are expensive.

I purchased the Receptor Pro and it is totally worth the cash. I got for about $2600 at Sweetwater, and they even threw in a nice 2 space rack at no extra cost. Software synths blow away the majority of hardware synths out there... especially in the area of realistic/real instrument samples (ie East West Symphony Orchestra, NI Akoustic Piano) The only drawback is that there are still a lot of soft synths which are not yet compatible with the Receptor... but there are a lot of great plug-ins that are compatible. Worst case scenero, it works as a great supplement to a computer workstation. You can run some stuff on the computer, and some stuff on the Receptor. The extra drive space (750 gigs) on the Pro is great. I'd hate to run out of drive space down the road. I wish I could add more than 2 gigs of RAM, but it more RAM might not do much with the included CPU.
