I would like to be able to chose several (3-5) ranges of the spectrum and then send each range out to a MIDI note with velocity - is this possible in FreqAnalyst Pro ? I have the demo and see how to send MIDI out, but have not figured out how to isolate a range of frequencies.

I'll be using this with a real-time graphics progam (Touch) and using the MIDI info to trigger graphics in time with music.

Thanks,
Jeff

Thank you for your interest in our products.

The FreqAnalyst Pro output is pitch-related (min, max and average pitch of the audio signal), so I don't think this is what you are looking for.

However this is something you can do with the combination of the Digital Peak Meter Pro (DPMP) and an EQ plugin such as our Parametr'EQ equalizer plugin: the DPMP lets you generate MIDI CC following the envelope of the audio signal. If you add an EQ in the FX chain before the DPMP you can select the frequency range you are interested in. Using several EQs and several DPMP in parallel should allow you to perform what you need. You can either use a modular host such as Energy XT to perform this task or just use several Aux Buses in your favorite sequencer:

audio track ---> BUS 1 ---> EQ1 ----> DPMP 1 ---> MIDI Out for band 1
---> BUS 2 ---> EQ2 ----> DPMP 2 ---> MIDI Out for band 2
---> BUS 3 ---> EQ3 ----> DPMP 3 ---> MIDI Out for band 3
(...)

Note that we intend to add a filtering capability to the DPMP to let you directly select your frequency range without having to use an external EQ, but it's not ready yet. If this option interests you, you can as well give a try to Blue Cat's Dynamics compressor/gate plugin that includes a filter and lets you output the envelope as MIDI CC.

Hope this helps. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have more questions.
