Receptor Pro/Kontakt 2 worries

Hey there,
We have a Receptor Pro (rev. c) and have had a few issues to date with certain things. Firstly, we have experienced occasional random resets where the unit will revert to the splash screen for a few seconds and then boot up again. Then our saved multi is lost and i do a manual reboot and often it crashes again when i try and load the multi once more.
At the end of a gig the other day, our receptor also just seemed to freeze. Luckily it was at the end of the gig when we werent using it but its making me nervous. The cursor just froze and i couldnt do the double-click reboot method - nothing happened. I had to hold the button down to switch it off. ???
We have also had a myriad of problems running Kontakt 2 (i blame Kontakt more than receptor for most of our problems!). We keep getting random clicks and glitches while running certian patches in Kontakt (it is NOT a sample rate issue). Sometimes its fine, sometimes its not. It seems that Kontakt does some nasty things to some of our samples when we convert them to instrument files but its completely random. Very annoying. Also Kontakt crashes the receptor whenever we try to edit samples with "snap to zero crossing", which we need to use. It is not a receptor issue as i've tried this on my computer and it does exactly the same thing.
This brings me to my other query, what other samplers are available for use in the receptor? Our sampling needs are not that great and we dont need the complexity offered by Kontakt, just stability. I might try Battery, but my confidence in NI is a little shaken. I should point out that the receptor seems to work great when using the included bundle of software but my confidence in this unit is a little low at the moment! I'd be most grateful for anyone's thoughts.
Regards,
James

I'm running Rev. C & Kontact 2 ~ often, and live.
I haven't experienced anything like what you're describing, but I did have similar issues before I upgraded to Rev. C. Do the following:
Open a ticket @ Plugorama.
if you're in a sincere rush - call Muse directly.

I feel your pain. I don't use my Receptor (rev C, 2GB ram, 160GB HD) live...I'm just not brave enough yet, nor do I play out often enough to make it worth the effort I know it would take...plus I have all the patches in my 5 keyboards/modules that I use live already programmed into my controllers already...so it would be a lot of effort!Atardecer wrote:Hey there,

Anyway...back to topic: Kontakt2 indeed has issues, though I tend to use it a lot. Here are some tips:
1) NEVER shut down with Kontakt2 loaded into an instrument slot. If you start up that way, you will have clicks, period.
2) for best results, shut down with a BLANK MULTI loaded. Always. If you get a crash with Kontakt2 loaded, after the restart load the blank multi, then do another double-click restart.
3) Don't use the Kontatk2 sample/instrument editing on the Receptor. Do all your editing on your main PC/Mac and transfer the stuff to the Kontakt2. About the only programming/editing I can do safely on the Receptor with Kontakt2 is building up and saving a multipatch.
Certainly not an ideal situation, but I hope these tips help you some.
I don't think there are any comparable sampler programs that run on Receptor. SampleTank2 is less stable than Kontakt2, and of course the quality is lower anyway.

I can confirm that loading a multi containing Kontakt on at least one channel has resulted in random resets and freezes for me as well. I have not heard of the suggestions that Hybernation wrote about, but I will certainly try them. I love Kontakt. It blows away Sampletank. Of course, I sold my Triton in favor of the Receptor and I will be gigging live in a few weeks for the first time with Receptor - but until I can get through a few hours of operation without a reset I remain concerned.

Thanks for the tips. I tried the trick with loading a blank multi but no change i'm afraid. This is really becoming unusable and its simply not good enough. It seems completely random. We might get thru a song without it happening but usually they will pop up somewhere. And it is only when using Kontakt. Perhaps there are some bugs in the receptorised version of the plug? Its not like the PC VST version is not without its bad code, although ive never experienced something like this before. Were just going to have to use something else, which is a damn shame considering we paid $4500 for this unit.

hmmm...I'm gonna have to definitely agree with JayVee and say open a ticket if you have not already. Sounds like you may have some bad RAM or some other faulty component.Atardecer wrote:Thanks for the tips. I tried the trick with loading a blank multi but no change i'm afraid.
