What's the load time on one of these if you were loading say a basic grand piano patch from colossus? or a string essamble from EW/QL SymphonicXP? Are you able to scroll through sounds and "preview" patches like you can on a regular hardware rompler?

Hi anomoly,
This is a highly variable question to answer (eg. just like me asking you how long it takes to load a piano patch on your computer, when I don't know the configuration of your computer, nor how big the piano patch is).
I have a receptor pro (Turion 2.4g, I believe) with 2g of Ram, and a 750g drive. Pianos can load in a minute or less. Other patches (eg. a Colossus Harpsichord) take only a few seconds (2-5).
In general, I find patch load times to be better than equivalently configured computers, but you won't find these as instantaneous as scrolling through patches on a Yamaha Motif (or other HW Rompler). For me, I find the times acceptable, and have been able to deal with individual instrument loads in a "live playing" context OK. If you need to switch large Multi's (many large sample sets), that would be more of a concern for live play. Even here, Muse has provided some functions to cache samples (ZLoad) and load only what is required (scene changes).

Kevin L
