Peti audio unit demo component

I thought I would give Peti a try as a Logic plug-in: no way! When submitted to auval (a.k.a. the audio unit validation tool) the component opens a dialog that can never be reached, saying "demo version won't do this or that", with an OK button that cannot be pressed; simply because the component is not an actual process, this dialog cannot be promoted to the foreground... ever! The only way out is to kill the auval process: the test can never succeed...

This is the shell command I used: auval -v aumu PetD NUso

Okay, there is another way to submit that component to the validation tests, but it will always behave just the same; so it won't actually fail, yet it won't pass the tests either.

Is there any solution to use this AU component with Logic?

Hello,

I assume you are trying this
http://nusofting.liqihsynth.com/zip/Pet ... AU_VST.zip

this was tested in Logic both on G5 and a new intel mac, and passed the AU validation,

if you still have problem we'll do a build without the Demo message,

thanks for trying

Post

Thanks, but that's the link which I downloaded the demo from. Now I do not doubt your components pass the validation tests; the problem is these tests cannot even begin until I've pressed that OK button: clicking on it, pressing return, enter or space won't help -- it simply won't respond to any stimulus from the outside world.

What's the point of alert sheets in a faceless application?

Here is what happens in the shell window:

~ : auval -v aumu PetD NUso

I killed the process after 10 minutes or so... Maybe my copy of the auval program is not up to date? Yet it's doing fine with all of my other plugs, including your own HarpTime Pro demo component -- which doesn't open any alert window.

ok, thanks for testing, we'll do build of Peti AU without the message window, hopefully in a few days,

Thank you: what's puzzling me is I'm the only one out there having this issue!

Two weeks later: I'm sorry to bother you again, but how will I tell the demo has been updated?

The web page reference has no release number, and the zip file hasn't changed name. When downloaded, it still shows up as version 2.0 and dates back to December 2006...

I'm a bit tired of downloading it every day, just for checking this out.

Hello,

sorry I wasn't clear at first, just watch this thread I will announce here to you when the new demo is ready.

Anyway we have a big delay due to the illness of my Mac programmer, he's been in hospital and has not recovered yet.

As it's an health issue I can't tell you right now when he'll be able to work again,

Thanks for your patience,

and it's indeed strange, if you have a PPC (not intel) I may send you an older version to try

Yes, please: I'm running X.4.8 on a 2GHz PowerPC G5.

ok please try this

thanks

Very nice: this release doesn't open any alert window during the validation test thus doesn't prevent its completion.

And it sounds wonderful indeed...

Yes, Peti sounds good, but it's a CPU hog: when run as an AU plug with Logic, some of the presets eat up more than 30% of my 2-GHz single-core PowerPC resources... Not quite usable in arrangements, except for solo work maybe.

Any plan to improve on this?

Or is it high time to acquire a modern machine?

Post

glad you like its sound, despite the small interface
the sound engine of Peti is big, 4 oscillators and 2 filters per voice, and if you use the "Couple" feature those are doubled, of course, so 30% on you machine is to be expected.
Moreover that's the version 1.0, the 1.5 is slightly faster, anyway if you are going to work with realtime synthesis (vs sample players) I strongly suggest you to upgrade your CPU,
samplers eat RAM and disk space,
where Physical Modeling, VA and additive need CPU power

I've tried my best to program Peti to yield a convincing chromatic harmonica, yet with disappointing results: any suggestion?
