Hi Urs,

Do you have any plans for making a 64 bit version of Zebra?

I'll probably be looking at upgrading to Vista 64 bit soon and I wonder where my favourite developers are with their 64 bit plans ;)

Cheers!

Ohhhh... gimme a break, pleaaaaase...

First off, any decent 64 bit host should still be able to host 32 bit plugins...

Now, formats... do they ever stop bringing out new formats?

I started with

AU
VST Mac
VST Win

but now it's all about

AU UB
VST Mac UB
Vst Win (<- only constant)
RTAS UB
RTAS Win

while in future we'll probably also see (all additional)

VST Mac UB 64
VST Win 64
VST3 Mac UB
VST3 Win
VST3 Mac UB 64
VST3 Win 64
RTAS Mac UB 64
RTAS Win UB 64

all this, and maybe Linux, too?

Seriously, the format hassle is going NUTS. Plugins shall not do 64 bit upon the format, but shall internally have corresponding switches, if desired (i.e. for marketing reasons). What plugin needs more than 4 Gig of RAM? No f**king streaming sample player needs that.

I sometimes get the feeling that the format overkill is brought up to bring the small developers down.

Imagine that...

... including free/magware I currently have 16 plugins in my portfolio. It's hard to keep up with the common platform updates... arrrrgh...

I have an older version of Digital Performer. Could i have MAS support as well ? That would rock!

f**k 64bit, I'm still waiting for an 8-bit version for my c=64.

You guys're braver than me -- I wouldn't be tweaking Urs on this after his last post! :hihi:

Any chance of doing an 12-bit version...for that 'vintage' Ensoniq EPS-effect ? :hihi:

So that's a 'NO' then? :hihi:

So many plugins, so little time...

Well, that's the unfortunate effect of being in the audio software biz, keeping up with other companies and their new formats and platforms. 64 bit's gonna take awhile to get to everything, though.

Yes Urs, it definitely does work to bring down the little guys like all of us - but if we can hang tight with them, we can show them that we can knock it out of the park (as I think they're already seeing).

At least, I hope :P

Sorry Urs, I didn't mean to tip you over the edge. Please forgive my ill-timed and ill-mannered question.

I actually havn't been serious here...

First off, in my perception small companies have always been faster to adopt new standards than bigger ones. Not all of them, but still.

I'm not going to go away any time soon, no matter how crappy APIs or systems are going to be. Hrhrhr, my war chest has doubled within 2 years, fix costs have been furtherly lowered (stopped smoking!), u-he can survive roughly one year without sales

If 64 bit becomes a viable platform, so be it. I'll happily press recompile a couple of times :)

;) Urs

Urs,

congrats on the quiting smoking! I have been there and know its a totally amazing feat to try!

Thanks :) - It's been quite, uhm, strange. After 5 months I'm still struggling a bit. But hey, almost no hang overs from beer anymore!!!
