Firewire-card not recording midi

I wanted to regain attention for this problem. It has been mentioned before on this forum by Traction2(the user). I have a Terratec Phase x24 FW card. It works perfectly, but when i want to record midi it doesn't record the notes, although there is input and my sampler gets triggered the way it should. I also have a PCI-soundcard installed (Esi Wamirack 192x), which also has a midi-port, and this card DOES record midi as it should.

Traction2 's problem was with the Presonus Firebox, so i guess it is firewire-related. Anyone else have this problem?

Yep. With T3 and the Presonus Firebox.
(I didn't have the problem with T2 though.)
Have to reset the audio device in settings regularily to have the midi recording ...

It happens in T2 too, for me.

I think it is a firewire-specific problem, not Tracktion's. I've noticed that when i have my V-verb started up with my soundcard digitally clocked to this unit, it causes the recording problem. I had something similar with my Digitech RP250: when i had it on while starting up the computer, the Terratec-drivers wouldn't "start". When i leave the Digitech off, the drivers work properly.

I'm thinking it has to do with power. The other units easily "drain" the firewire-card of power, which causes the firewire-card to malfunction. This is only an educated guess, but the results i'm getting are consistent: When i power up the computer i have to leave the Digitech and V-verb off. The V-verb has to be off and my soundcard must be internally clocked for midi-recordings to succeed. Maybe my PSU is insufficient?

Anyways, if i take these things into account i have no problems.

I don't think the problem is power related, at least on my system, because my Firebox is sometimes powered extarnally and I'm pretty sure I had the problem in this situation too. BUt I'll retry.

I never once have had this issue with my bus-powered FireBox on my Asus desktop, nor when I use the Firebox with the wall-wart power supply and my Thinkpad laptop.

It is the one thing that is preventing me from buying T3. I refuse to go backwards in my current capability or increase my frustration level.

Firebox problem persists here too. Always powered by wall wart.

Not sure if this is related, but I have just had some problems using the Maple Virtual Midi Cable loop. For those not familiar, it allows you to send the midi data out of a track and record it back into a different track. You could use it for instance to record the played notes from an arpegiator.

I have had the loop working, then changed edits and it stopped recording. I checked the data was leaving the track and returning on the new track with a midi monitor and track record was armed. I could not get the incoming midi data to record. I played a few notes from my Novation SL keyboard and that was recorded to the outbound track, but the incoming track remained empty. Yes I checked the record modes to make sure it wasn't on "e-e but don't record" (or whatever).

Just thought that it might not be purely firewire problem?

Keeps me wondering what the problem really is, because I'm considering buying a Firebox real soon and I'm using T3.

Could it be related to MIDI timestamp thing?
Peace, my friends. I'm not seeking arguments here. ;)

Unfortunately, Mackie has been silent on this - at least on the forum here.

I already have a Firebox and it has worked flawlessly with T2. I'm not interested in another interface, and I'm not interesting in fumbling around with this in T3. Waiting until T3 seems to be stable.

Thought i'd mention T3 IS working fine for me now, when i take the forementioned things in account (not powering up my V-verb or my Digitech when starting up the computer and V-verb needs to be off when recording midi).

Just reproduced the recording drop out by selecting an existing edit from a different folder and selecting "discard changes" for the current edit. In the new edit hit the record button before anything else and the "current position" bar jumps back to the In marker of the loop (Loop is on) from it's previous position and nothing records. As was mentioned by Njxt2 it can be fixed by restarting the audio device. This was done using the Maple VMC I mentioned above.
