Post

this was already posted but some people couldn't find the old link, BESIDES THIS HAS BEEN EDITED for YOU! :)

===FACT!===
the NI Service Center "WILL NOT" work without the "Macromedia Flash Plugin", but I show you how :)
plus having MANY copys of "NI Service Center" on your machine means nothing...what matters is the information written in the Registry".
if this still scares you having MANY copys of "ServiceCenter" installed.
install ONLY one (FUNCTIONAL ONE) and delete the extras. (example safe place: C:\Programs Files\).
==========

---ATTENTION START---
I WRITE COMMANDS in this How to if your not familuar with this lingo please DO NOT attempt them, BUT I write the exact commands for you so its NOT as scary for N00b$.
dont worry being a n00b is fun (its called LEARNING) you dont have to Live up to anything........YET :)

example (only for REF): ls, cp, nano, vi

YOU NEED to know how to use "VI" or install "NANO" to edit files in MUSE LINUX, or you could copy it to your USBDRIVE and edit it on our computer (takes longer but WAY SAFER).

----this enables the REGISTRY in the Remote or Monitor----
-----------------REGISTRY START------------
LOGIN to MUSE LINUX (read HOW down the page).

first backup file (DO IT!): cp -Rv /etc/sysconfig/receptor /etc/sysconfig/receptor-BAK

example one (file to drive): cp -Rv /etc/sysconfig/receptor /c/usbdrive

--EDIT THE FILE--
go to bottom of the page you will see a section that says: export MUSE_PROVIDE_REGEDIT=1
if it doesn't exist write it exactly as I put it.
------------------------

example two (file from drive to receptor): cp -Rv /c/usbdrive/receptor /etc/sysconfig/receptor

-----------------REGISTRY END---------------

"you need to upgrade to the latest Reaktor 5 version on your Windows PC first and activate.
then COPY the "Reaktor 5" folder in "C:\Program Files\Native Instuments\" to the "Unsupported" Folder.
make sure there is ONLY "four.dll" files in the "Reaktor 5" folder.
than login to Muse Linux to edit the registry from the terminal or add the Registry button hack (easyer, way easyer).
"IF" you dont already have the "REGISTRY BUTTON" login to MUSE LINUX and edit the file "/etc/sysconfig/receptor" go at the bottom of the page you will see a section that says: export MUSE_PROVIDE_REGEDIT=1
if it doesn't exist write it exactly as I put it.

----ATTENTION END----

---INSTRUCTIONS START----
1. copy the folder inside your windows compluter named: Macromed
it is inside C:\windows\system32
put it on a USB stick.

2. log in as root (turn on machine, press "e" (forever), press return, highlight "KERNEL /VMLINUZ RO ROOT=/DEV/BLAH_BLAH_BLAH", press "e", put a 1 after the ATA66 (with a space between them, press return, press "b".

3. after it has loaded put the usb stick in, cd /c, ls, you will see a "usbdrive" folder, cd into that folder than type this:

cp -Rv Macromed /c/windows/system32/

next type "reboot" (without the quotes) then yankout the usbstick when it gos black.

4. next go to your Windows computer and look in the registry.
what WE are looking for is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, HKEY_CURRENT_USER go inside "Software", Native Instuments and create "ServiceCenter" and "Reaktor 5" on the Receptor Registry.

you NEED to recreate ALL (except "SYSTEMID" and "SNO") of the reg entrys on your windows computer into the registry in Receptor.
in the SAME registry area.

make sure your "InstallDir" and "InstallVSTDIR"" paths are correct (dont forget the \ at the end of the path.).
and think Windows centric NOT unix (C:\Program Files, "not" \c\windows\Program\ Files).
then when your sure its a clone, exit the registry editor and load Reaktor and do the whole NI Service Center thingy.

P.S. you register in "offline" mode, export to unlock, load unlock file on internet ready computer, login to "NI" site, they will give you the ".naf" key, now import the file inside "ServiceCenter".
TADA!!!

its sounds hard...but its not!!!
and boy is it worth it.

props go out to"oGG" for being down for the cause!

You could use "RECODE" in Linux, BSD or any other *NIX to convert a "Windows" registry file into a "WINE" friendly version.
since some of those KEYs can be quite insaine and LONG!

============================================================
example:

recode ucs-2..ascii nameofyourfile.reg

then import it in the WINE registry. :)

Although it's not really relevant to me, I have to say, your expertise and generosity is great and you are a major member on this forum bekenone :) Thanks for all the help!

Thanks for the information. I had a few questions on the following steps:

2. log in as root (turn on machine, press "e" (forever), press return, highlight the long string of madness, press "e", put a 1 after the ATA133, press return, press "b".

3. after it has loaded put the usb stick in, cd /c, ls, you will see a usbstick or usbdrive folder (i forget), cd into that folder than type this:

cp -Rv Macromed /c/windows/system32/

next type "reboot" (without the quotes) then yankout the usbstick when it gos black.
________________
When I log in as root, I get three choices to highlight - which one is the long string of madness? The second one? Mine does not end in ATA133.

After it boots, I am able to see the usb folder using remote but I do not see where I can type in cp -Rv Macromed /c/windows/system32/ - how do I carry out this step?

Finally, how do I edit the registry in Receptor?

I appreciate the help.

OK...this method ISNT working with "BATTERY 3" (stock or ANY of the updates).
"WINE" thinks the stock version is "FM8" and starts dumping?
the "XML" tweek posted dosent work ("info" or "custom"), but that doesnt mean I GIVE UP :)
Ive come to the conclusion that the "XML" files are not what they seam?
anyone feel the need to challenge this theory with proof?

P.S. I also tryied installing this inside "UBUNTU (Feisty)" WINE and got a 0x114d824e and it also said "fm8" ?
debugger and lastlog said it was on the TODO list?

Hi there bekenone,

Thanks for posting these detailed steps; I'm about to give this a try. I have a couple of questions though:

1. You indicate that there should be only four DLL files in the install dir of Reaktor. I'm assuming this is only if you install the VST plugin to the same directory, otherwise copy the Reaktor DLL's from the installed to VST folder?

2. I read through the steps a couple of times, but don't see anything about copying the Service Center directory over to the Receptor. I'm assuming in addition to the steps to copy over the Macromedia and Reaktor files, I also need to copy the Service Center directory??

3. How do I start the Service Center from the Receptor?

Thanks,

Matt

Oops, one more question:

4. Where to install Service Center - Unsupported Plugins or just somewhere within Program files?

Post

OK; managed to get Reaktor working with the above instructions. Thanks much for that!! However, when I try to install Massive using the same steps, my system unexpectedly reboots and the app doesn't install. Has anyone managed to get Massive working via bekenone's steps?

Thanks,

Matt

anywhere just as long as the registry is pointing to that path.

Not sure if I'm missing something but I can't seem to log into my receptor using the method listed above.

How long do you wait before hitting return after pressing the 'e' key?

Thanks.
