Talking about software amp sims, one of my oldest "tricks" (adopted from my old hardware rig and not exactly a trick either):
Put an EQ both in front and behind the amp sim. The pre-EQ will allow you to shape the distortion characteristics while the post-EQ might even out too harsh boosts without reducing distortion.
Example: You want a lead sound that has creamy highs but isn't too muddy in the low area. For this, I would boost the highs (even quite a bit) and probably lower the low mids and basses with the pre-EQ. Now, this might sound rather shrill, so that's when the post-EQ kicks in. You could just do the almost opposite EQing there, just with less cut/boost as the overdrive will "catch up" some of the pre-EQ boost.

J Kennedy, the guy who is posting it, is a wild man.
Maybe interesting in a retarded way, and a wild man, but nearly everything he was saying was total bullshit!!

His thread was literally a moron who was free to ramble. I wouldnt do anything he mentioned..

Some of his workarounds kinda(but barely) made sense, but there ARE much simplier and WAY more effective ways to do a lot of what he was trying to say.. Seriously I think he has mental problems...
So far he has explained how to add and replace magnets in a pickup for experimental new tones and how to rewire a Strat to get some unusual pickup combinations. I don't see anything retarded about that - and what would be an easier way to do those things? Get somebody else to do it for you or grab something off the shelf?

Seems most people are only interested in sounding exactly like someone else nowdays, it's good to see some of the rock-n-roll experimental spirit still alive IMO!
I replaced magnets in my pickups quite often. Not really a "new" thing at all. And like I said his pickup wiring can be found anywhere on the net..

As far as "sounding" like someone else, that category doesnt befall me, I hot rod all my guitars, amps, pickups, wiring, you name it.. SOme of the things he has mentioned are either completely out of date, or so out of whack it makes no sense to try what he is stating..

New thread here: Need some help picking an amp sim.

OP is seeking advice for an amp sim (OSX on an intel mac) for:
A) Nice indie rock tones, lightly overdriven or clean, with nice reverbs and delays.

B) Spacey ambient type sounds with modulation and filtering.

My favorite bass amp modeler: this thing that was designed to turn an elec guitar into an acoustic, and it does the low end really well. http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=188094 and direct link to the plugin: http://dashsignature.com/RAR/NUSofting_DeepBoard.rar

My favorite guitar amp plugin is the Jesusonic amp modeler that comes with Reaper, I guess you can get them also here: http://www.jesusonic.com/soft.php and direct link: http://www.jesusonic.com/software/jesus ... nstall.exe. You'll need an exciter after the Jesus, you can do De La Mancha's Sumo: http://www.delamancha.co.uk/sumo.htm http://www.delamancha.co.uk/plugins/sumo.zip

For ring modulators, try De La Mancha's ring thing, some guy's Ringscope, and from the dev chal 2007, Quasimodo. I could post links but I don't want to. Look them up.

From what I seem to understand, this is a software, right?
But I can't find any software download link on that site...

Hi Sacha,

This had me baffled as well, but all you need to do is download a song, unzip/rar it, then double click the song name and it runs as it's a self ex file. I've just downloaded Little Wing and it's not bad at all, there's even the option to slow down the playback. This site is a nice find.
RIP Black Tom and Beckett. They weren't just cats, they were MY cats, the best cats ever.

Ah, thanks, will give it a go.

Don't know if this is the right place to be telling you this but I've posted a "DEFAULT AMPS" bank for Guitar Rig 3: http://www.kvraudio.com/banks.php

Here's the attached blurb:

No new sounds but something useful for those of us that just want to grab an amp and play: a "Default Amps" bank for GR3 - nothing but the 12 amps with their default cabinets. The default cabinet module has two microphones so there's a second set of presets for use on a stereo track with a dual cabinet setup, one panned hard left with mic A and the other panned hard right with mic B. The amp settings and cabinet dry/air settings are default.

Here's the list of presets:

1 FENDER TWEED DELUXE
2 VOX AC30
3 FENDER BASSMAN
4 ROLAND JC120
5 FENDER TWIN REVERB
6 ORANGE
7 HIWATT
8 MARSHALL PLEXI
9 MARSHALL JCM800
10 MESA BOOGIE
11 BOGNER
12 AMPEG SVT
13 FENDER TWEED DELUXE dual cab
14 VOX AC30 dual cab
15 FENDER BASSMAN dual cab
16 ROLAND JC120 dual cab
17 FENDER TWIN REVERB dual cab
18 ORANGE dual cab
19 HIWATT dual cab
20 MARSHALL PLEXI dual cab
21 MARSHALL JCM800 dual cab
22 MESA BOOGIE dual cab

OK - obviously I haven't been keeping this thread updated and it hasn't gotten much attention from others here at KVR. To all who did post here - Thanks! But I'm not surprised that this approach to gathering the guitar related data hasn't worked very well. I have to admit that I lost interest in trying to maintain it when few other people were adding stuff. There are some really good threads and posts related to guitars on KVR and I had hoped that a separate forum would be established so that the threads would stay in one area. When I saw that a separate forum wasn't going to happen, I decided (or maybe Guitarzan decided - I can't remember) to start this thread. But it's a bit of a hassle to find the good stuff, copy a link, write up something about it, and post it in this thread. But I finally discovered the power of the little red bullseye in the upper right hand corner of the webpage - the KVRmark. Now when I see something that I want to have access to later, I use the KVRmark system to tag it and then I can have links to all of my favorite threads and posts in one spot. Quick and easy - pretty cool. There may be a way to make the KVRmarks public and categorize them for the benefit of all. Maybe the KVR guitarheads can work together for a guitar KVRmark page.

Anyway, a guitar-focused forum is still a good idea and Dimitar (a great guitarist and a KVR regular) has just started a forum that looks like a good place for computer recording guitarists to hang out at. See this thread for more info:

Go sign up and start posting. And listen to some of Dimi's music if you haven't heard it yet. Outstanding stuff!

Greatest amp-sim ever created:

Yeah, I know, most of you didn't like it after seeing the price tag but if you can get beyond that it's just an amazing product.
