anyone out there that can tell me if they use jamstix2 and mulab?, if they are compatable?, any problems with jamstix and exporting songs/grooves?

Good question. Also interesting to me would be some overall advice on how to handle drum machines in general, e.g. RMIV, where I usually internalize the MIDI part: using readymades from the package itself or from Groove Monkey.

In Mu.Lab, how do you record the output of drum software like LinPlug RM4, GURU, Jamstix 2?

just select the musical note icon and add your vsti in one of the racks, record and go

As far as I'm aware, MU.LAB currently only records MIDI Input from outside the app. It doesn't have much flexibility in internal routing (good enough but not extensive). If you want to record the MIDI out of a VST, direct it to an external VIRTUAL output port, like MIDI Yoke, then loop that back and record it as input.

Ah, that's the secret.

Well, I found a way round that workflows for me in GURU, at least. You can render WAVs from it, export, and haul them into Mu.Lab as audio clips. Better than nothing.

And the MIDIs that drive RM4 (or DK+ or similar) can be imported straight to Mu.Lab.

Which leaves me with the Jamstix question the first guy was asking....

Just to be precise:

Events that are generated inside a vst are put in the event output of that vst plug, and they are processed by any 'downstream' plug.

But, indeed, currently you cannot record these events as these events don't pass the 'recorder'.

Internally, MU.LAB has the flexibility to do this, but it's not yet there in the user interface.

Added on the whishlist.

so could you kinda walk me through, ive got jamstix2 and just purchased mulab, love it. but if i cant save those jams and export them directly --dragndrop.... etc, what would be the most productive way, to add the jam into mulab. im very new at this, but couldnt i just save the jam as a midi file in jamstix, then import it into mulab????

i know i pretty much just said the answer, but id really like to get deeper into the program -MULAB, and understand the whole modular logic thing, cause i also have tracktion3, which has the modular racks similar to mulab

If jamstix can record its own MIDI, then yes - your idea of saving from Jamstix and importing into (damn, nearly called it LUNA) MU.LAB is probably easiest. This will give you a second session containing the newly imported track. However, the original session will also be able to access the sequence, if you set up a new part and attach it.

yes you were, thank you. i guess i was in the denial stage of grief over the compatability issue's lol

...now for expceptance, and moving on. But seriously this piece of software is definitly king. its like what notepad is to microsoft word(meaning, it lets you do your thing and do it quick, =better creative workflow, especially for guitarists) no lip service, just a quick tip of the hat to the man responsible!
