Hi,

I'm new to DK+ (ver. 1.50). I'm using it with REAPER. I'm having a problem changing patterns in that I use non-standard rhythms. So, here's my issue:

Pattern A: This is time sig. of 6/4 and the length is 24 (6 measures of 4 beats, obviously)

Pattern B: This is time sig. of 4/4 and the length is 16 (4 measures of 4 beats)

In REAPER I use a Midi event to change out of Pattern A, into Pattern B. The "change" itself works fine. However, Pattern B does not start at the beginning, but rather 2 measure into it. I don't know why. It seems to me that DK+ is expecting all patterns to be "full" - i.e. each page has 4 measures in DK+. Since my PatternA only uses 2 of the 4 on Page2, this messes up things when changing to PatternB.

I hope this makes some sense. I rarely compose using straight 4/4 rhythms so I really hope that DK+ can handle patterns using different time signatures.

Thanks for any help.
Scott

For anyone that sees this, I also posted this to the REAPER forums and a kind poster let me know there is already a thread in these forums:

Bottom line: This is a "feature" and is works as intended. I'm finding it unusable because of this. I don't really get what the point is to provide different patterns but not be able to start a pattern at the beginning at any point during a song. Essentially then, they only way to use DK+ in that manner is to write the entire song out straight thru and not even use patterns.

Hi smarmit,

thanks for your feedback, obviously DK+ was not designed for the advanced use you mean. Surely DK+ offer a lot of features and many sounds for a very small price, but the request for an alternative method to trigger patterns has already come up more than one time. So I planned to add that: just I dind't find the time yet.

What I did add (one year ago) is the MIDI export function with drag and drop,
and I usually prefer to use that in my song with DK+.
Basically I compose my patterns in DK+ with its step editor functions, then I drag out the MIDI clip to a MIDI track in the Host, then I assign the DK+ to that track and switch its step seq off.
Now the MIDI clip in the track plays just like DK+ seq, but I can move it, duplicate it and edit it with the all MIDI features that the Host offers.

Anyway I understand that you may want to keep the patterns in the DK+ seq for
further editing with the DK+ interface, but if you use signature other that 4/4 the way to go is the MIDI clip export so far.

Hi liqih,

Thank you for the reply! That's just what I needed, as being new to the tool I hadn't really come up with the best way to use it. I'll try the approach you describe.

I agree that the tool is great for a great price! Sorry if I came across like I was overly critical. Now that I have a good approach I suspect all will be well!

Thanks

Hi smarmit,

any feedback is good, don't worry.

Let us know how it goes with the other method,
thanks
