I tested the VST version (2.2.1b2) for CPU spikes/audio drop outs with Cubase using the "HS DY7 Add Pad" preset. I got the same behaviour as with the 2.2 version:
- fs_usage shows Cubase <-> loginwindow io
- Lots of DelayNaN4: LimitCoeff log messages
- Occasional audio drop outs that correlate with disk IO

I installed the beta by renaming the original VST to "Zebra2.vst.2.2" and copying the the new version from the zip in the Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST folder.

Ah... maybe... thought I fixed it but maybe not thoroughly enough...

But can you crash it?

Can anyone crash it? I.e. by opening/closing the gui 100 times?

Does anyone loose registration (as in: it goes into demo mode)?

Okay, I've uploaded a new Mac version. Nothing serious, just this time I'm absolutely sure that the excessive logging is gone. One never knows though

Post

Yes, logging is gone now. I've played with it for about an hour. No crashes. No audio drop outs. Great :)

Registration is OK. No random notes.

I've opened the GUI many times (>100) by putting something heavy on the open/close VST window shortcut while playing. No crashes. One thing I did notice is that doing this introduces small audio clicks. Not audio drop out but small clicks added to the audio. A good way to hear them is to add a lot of reverb since they do go though the effects.

Pieter.

Thanks! :)

Clicks when opening the GUI you say? That's unheard of so far. I'll check that out 8)

I'm quite happy though... a customer needs the current thing for a very, uhm, huge project (full film score with Zebra as synth plugin exclusively*). Hence I was very frustrated that recent beta builds would be crashable, which might have jeopardized this stunt...

*they also use a Virus and some analogue modular systems, thought I should mention this

Cool, thanks!

I'm sorry for being a bit impatient on a Sunday... my forum for beta testers is acting weird, there are no notification emails. Meanwhile Bruce Wayne gets a bit impatient because the score designers have to manually switch presets (or use yet another machine with yet another 17 instances). Hence I'm sweating blood and tears to get this thing going...

Nothing like satisfying those "important" clients, eh..? ;)

Well, this certain case is quite special... I've been "on site" in January and we talked a lot about things, especially about how to improve Zebra for better integration in *huge* projects. They naturally wanted the gui resize because the screens are huge and relatively far away. And because they use hundreds of patches in a film score, they wanted program changes. Furtherly, they have custom programmed controllers for Zebra's XYs, so they urgently needed the MidiLearn fixed.

Unfortunately some weird bug would cause crashes and it took me weeks to find the problem. Hence the actual production time came closer and closer, until they already started to work with the old version, while I couldn't deliver a stable update (back then I was sure it would just be a recompile).

However, everything seems to be working fine now so I can finally start to deal with other things than just bugfixes! 8)

Btw. I'll post a project report with interviews and stuff later on!

Later,

;) Urs

Hi,

I just installed the last Beta of Z2 in AU format, and I'm unable to find the midi program folder, tough it seams to work: when I run files with midi change settings, my initial instrument settings are changed and setted to instruments of the Local folder menu.
