hello im new around here and im close to getting a receptor. dont know which one to get though. the basic receptor with komplete 5 inside is what im looking at but will there still be room in the hard drive to install anymore vsts? does komplete take up the whole 150 gig in there?

2. also if i need more outputs, is it straight forward enough to USB a audio interface with more outs to it?

3. i cant seem to find dimensions for the receptor module anywhere! can someone write it down. thanks ;)

4. lastly, is there anyone from the uk here. i tried to email grizzly media (uk distributors) but i havent had a reply yet so i dont know if the message got through. how is the support for the receptor in the uk..regarding breakdowns etc.

thanks anyone!

I'd go for the (pro C ??) with the 400 GB hard drive

alan (?) from grizzly media comes on here sometime i think - i emailed them when i was thinking of buying receptor and they rung and emailed back a few days later . I also emailed NI sales about the K4/K5 and never got a reply. In the meantime I found a Pro C at absolute music - ex demo - not much discounted but available for next day delivery and i got that.

I think you might be limited to grizzly or NI direct anyway - any uk 3rd party is gonna get them from there anyway??
I would have preferred grizzly in case anything went wrong but the instock from mailorder swung it at the time.

Grizzly are in cheshire somewhere I think (? macclesfield) if that makes any difference - I personally would like to think i could put the machine in the car and just drive it somewhere for service/repairsrather than send it to Germany or have to deal with NI support - though i dont know whether I personally could having bought it elsewhere - mine didnt come in original box so would be not very easy to send anywhere today if it stopped working today ---- say what you like about Macs but it is good to be able to go online and book for someone to look at your machine at the local apple store within a couple of hours

- as it happened the receptor arrived with a rattle - absolute said send it back if you unhappy but I took the courage to take the lid of first and found the memory rattling about - i stuck it in the slot and the machine worked!

dimensions are standard full sized rack - thats 19" by ??11.5" by 3.5" approx

i like it but im no muso - i can imagine my music tech teacher asking (as have others on here) - why bother just use logic whatever vsts you want and external hardware if you want -but i'd have to remind him i've spent several hundred hours of the last few months f'ing about with cables interfaces software programmes when i coulda been making music - or at least learning to - im now glad im locked into the muse - there is still a bit of a learning curve which i think could be made much easier by bringing together various strands from the various editions of the manuals and help documents esp on VSTs
that are unsupported - even supported stuff like atmosphere whatever are not the easy ride they could be nevermind all that wine/linux stuff - good luck with the komplete stuff I dont even wanna go near battery on my pc or mac it proved to be a nightmare - respect to bekonone and people like that but im now too old to see figuring out how to get software to work or where my drumkit went to be a useful challenge

er so on balance er buy one maybe or maybe just use logic - i still think as a box its a very good box- (if expensive) - who cares if 64 bit or whatever is here or that the motherboard is a "primitive" compared to a todays pc - i am still hoping i could make the equivalent sound to anything i liked in the last 30 years using just the receptor and a DAW.

not sure about the usb for more ouputs youd have to do that via your computer/DAW to multioutput interface rather than the receptor itself?? - theres an optical ADAT but i think thats just for wordclock ?? - shows how much i know

hi alan thanks for the reply. i called alan at grizzly and had a chat. he was very easy to talk to and he answered all my queries. i think ill stick to the 150 gig komplete. everything i need would be inside already. he said could install a larger drive in the future so thats good to know. yeah these things are not cheap. ill be using it mainly for my live gigs. right now im using a korg triton rack...which will become my backup when receptor arrives. i think its a good investment as opposed to taking a laptop - ive got a macbook pro and ive filled it up with non music things. i might even at a push decide to ebay a bunch of my studio gear and go for another receptor just for the studio..i dont think the wife will notice ;)

yeah, i bought battery years ago and it works fine for me (have you been having a lot of grief with it?)...eventually i bought ezdrummer and ive been using that as it has the right sounds im looking for.

i think theres a few adat>analog convertors out there that i can connect to give me more outs. ive been searching the forum and im checking out a couple.

thanks again for your help.
