Addifract Beta - 2008 May 15th - copyright nusofting.com

The date of the DLL files must be 2008 May 15th

This Windows VSTi update adds Chorus - Flanger modulation
and fix the compatibility with Sonar 7.
Moreover you can now load 5 FXP files per session, beside
the default bank which always loads on start.

Addifract Beta can still save FXP files,
please post your feedback and your presets to
NUSofting forum at kvraudio.com, best presets will be rewarded
with the full version.

Please note that Addifract is skinnable and it will look
completely different on release, the current skin is just
to work with it.

Thanks,

Here is a synth I started some months ago, needs VST Windows host,
it works quite well but it's not complete, please check it and let me know if it's worth
the development,

the concept is an additive/waveshaping synth with hamonics triggered by fractal LFOs
http://dashsignature.com/download/addif ... ofting.rar
better you get this also: http://dashsignature.com/download/addifract_update.rar
the question is: is it an interesting ambient synth? enough to be a commercial project?
(use only 2 or 3 voices or the CPU goes red!)

Appendix:

What is a fractal LFO?

The fractal LFO (introduced for the first time with the NUSofting Kaotica freeware VST effect)
uses a simple quadratic equation called the logistic difference to generate "self-similar" patterns.
the patterns are always different but they are not randomized like thye usual S&H,

Image
source=http://www.pha.jhu.edu/~ldb/seminar/logdiffeqn.html
the patterns are picked by the fractal LFO in the region where the fecondity value r is between 3.5 and 4,
as you can see in the picture above

I like it. Thanks liqih. But it eats a lotta of CPU on my DualCore6300 ! Never saw that before.
You can't always get what you waaaant...

Yes I know it almost use all CPU cycles, but it's not optimized at all, play few notes to check the sound only,

despite the few controls there is a complex engine inside Addifract,

the question is: is it an interesting ambient synth? enough to be a commercial project?

the mp3 sounds sweet to me ... will check it out ... .

thanks, one more mp3 added

Answering your question is not easy... the concept looks interesting, the demos are cool, and the first presets are appealing. But I don't know if there's a market for this synth... what would you add, besides optimizations ?
what price range would you consider ?

about 59 USD, anyway if there's a market for this synth we should it see by how many posts there will be here the next days, <wink>

and to answer your other question, more features could be different waveshapers to change the timbre,
and one or two LFOs to modulate the mix of harmonics

the second mp3 is even better than the first ... the sound is :drunk: :tu:

Lots of really interesting/harsh/soft/delicate/nasty/angelic sounds in there and it makes a nice companion synth to Modelonia.

I've got no idea what the market is like for an ambient synth but it would be something I'd be tempted to pick up for $30 or so but its probably a bit too specialised for me to spend $59 on.

That said, I think that it's more than an ambient synth.

Thanks for the feedback Steve, I hear you, just that I can't support a full product for less that 45 USD currently, 45 USD is absolutely the minimum price for any new Windows only product to release from now on,
and with Mac support the price goes up.

Probably Addifract it's too specialised as you say and will stay with this free alpha, <grin>
Let's see next posts

cool, some presets to share?, <grin>

testing in minihost.... yeah, take the reverb effect off and you can use this but a lot of stuff other than ambient... very cool

Sorry liqih, that probably came out more downbeat than I actually intended, the perils of typing whilst tired. Addifract is definitely capable of more than just ambiences, I only really used that term as that was how you described it. The $30 is what I'd pay for the synth as it is now but optimised, which is all I can really judge it on at the moment.
