Hey howard and urs,

do you think we could have a few mp3 snippets or small demos of what zebra does for the new batman movie? :)

Post

Well, that's not really up to us... I guess we'll have to wait until the movie/soundtrack/score comes out...

I havn't heard much myself, mostly Howie's early sketches when I visited them in HZ's studio... so I'm curious as hell ymself

Post

So how did his early sketches sound like? Were they like ambient soundscapes or drony things?

Since I used to be doing a lot of 3D stuff, I have seen a few films just because of their Visual FX.
Batman will be the first film I watch because of the synth used :D

Hans Zimmer does the soundtrack for The Dark Knight and Zebra2 is IIRC the only softsynth used (after some Virus patches were recreated in Zebra as well). I'm not sure if Hans used his modular synths from CME and Cwejman though... maybe Howard can say something about that as he's been involved more closely (Zebra sound design)...

To put things straight: Apart from many Z2 sounds used by HZ and James Newton-Howard, Mel Wesson (the guy who produced The Verve's big hit) is responsible for much of the dark atmosphere, using mostly his PPG modular. While watching it, try and guess which sounds are Z2, which are PPG and which are samples (only joking!).

BTW: Don't expect it all to sound overtly synthetic/filtery - there are quite a few "real" instruments at work (orchestral, percussion, distorted guitar) so the overall effect is massively orchestral. And scary... :troll:

Forgot to mention... no CME or Cwejman used on DK soundtrack AFAIK. Those monsters were in my programming room all the time - see http://www.zorchmusic.com/hscarr/html/images.html

I received a copy of the Dark Knight CD this morning. There's Zebra2 all over/under the final mix. I half expected it to be drowned out by the orchestra, but it ain't! :D.

BTW: Urs got a mention in the booklet - quite rightly. Yay!
