Hi Guys!

I'm Nic - a first-time Receptor owner after having made the huge leap from the world of hardware synths...

So, I have a receptor with a load of great plugins installed and have just bought myself a Novation x-station 61 as a controller. The only thing now is trying to get my brain round how to configure everything for my needs....this is causing said brain to hurt a bit.

I mostly play live so ideally want everything controllable from the panel of the x-station. So, the way I normally configure my synths is to arrange each of my favourite patches in sequence in an empty bank - there would typically be a couple of organ patches, a couple of string, brass and then a few specific sounds for certain songs - lets say 10 altogether arranged from 001 to 010 in an otherwise empty bank (leaves room to add more as needs be).

With Receptor of course, you have different synths to make the different sounds within the same box - fine, no probs there. I have infact gotten together an organ patch, a string patch and a brass patch and stuck them in their own bank - all working fine.

The confusion comes when I bring in the X-station to control everything. The x-station has midi control templates, which seem to be preset for various plugins - a lot of which, I don't use. Each template has cc or nrpn numbers assigned to each of the panel controls.

What I'm finding confusing is how do I use these templates to control my sounds on the receptor? Do I use 1 template lets call it "nic's template" and then nake all my contoller assignments from within Receptor - saving them with each of my patches? OR do I need to use a seperate template for each patch that I have?

Sorry this is a bit of a stream of consciousness at the moment....was just wondering if anyone had any experience of the same sort of dilemma or perhaps experience of using receptor in this was maybe even with an x-station?

Kind Regards
Nic

you can set up NRPNs to control plugins, but I find the easiest way of doing it is to use the Receptor's 'faceless mode' to assign the relevant parameters of the plugin - they are then controllable with CCs 16-23 on the channel that the plugin is using. It seems to be set for the plugin rather than a patch, so it goes across different multis, which i like.
