..at the moment Im looking for a solution to play loops on my receptor without using a pc. I don't have cubase or anything like that.

does anyone have any reccomendations on what hardware sequencer i can get - would there be a problem in getting it to work with my receptor.

i'd like to use it to play loops on stylus rmx and possibly some bass sounds, with some piano on the top.

thanks

p.s. i've been impressed with ableton's live! software. is there a hardware equivalent of this that would work with receptor ?

Hi there, an akai mpc works very nice as hardware sequencer .. you can mute an unmute tracks in your loop very quickly with the pads (ableton like).

Hardware ableton would require to have the loops inside that machine (not in the receptor) there were yamaha su700 machines which did that sort of. A yamaha motif can do the same (but is a little complicated to program).

My suggestion would be to take the stylus midi files from the grooves and put them in separate tracks on the akai mpc .. and voila realtime tempo change and mute/unmate on the fly .. when you start adding intakt grooves and or rex files and bassline synthlines on top .. I guess you could say your very flexible without a laptop! Just make sure that everything is a rex groove '(if you know what I mean. Working with 4/8/16 measure rexed loops is great this way .. long backing tracks with long samples are better of in ableton though (which ofcourse can run midi-synced along).

Btw .. I did the same 2 days ago jamming with a guitar player through guitar rig, midi files triggering addictive drums and myself jamming rhodes and synths on keys all on 1 receptor .. beats any other hardware workstation in my opinion.

Next time I'll try it with bass and ampeg plugin :-)

I forgot to mention the yamaha rmx 1, works with floppy disks :-( .. but is a very flexible hardware sequencer with realtime control and is dirt cheap as well nowadays.

Here's one that works as unsupported.

+1. This is a very smart suggestion, I wish I'd thought of it myself!

btw, if you won't be using the sampling portion of the MPC, you should do just as well with the much cheaper MPC500.

Do you know what features of Energy work as unsupported on Receptor? I think many would find it interesting if it plays midi files and handles loop triggering, and arppegiator type things.
