hi
just started music again after a long break, and after struggling with CuBase (too bloody awkward) and Psycle (unstable, an eventually failed to load) i am loving MuTools!! I have a couple of basic questions.

1. How do i add tracks? seems daft but i can't seem to find an 'add tracks' command/button anywhere (note there are only 4 at the moment so even in the freebie version i should be able to add more)?

2. is there a way to tell the loop to play x number of times? thereby saving lots of hassle in setting up songs or do i just have to copy/paste the required segment as much as i need?

3. I occasionally get a windows error message upon exiting: couldn't read memory at [string of hex] click ok to close or cancel to debug. Is this anything to worry about?

cheers :help:

Right-click on the track column.

General tip regarding using MU.LAB: if you're looking for a function, right-click on the relevant objects = open context menu for the relevant objects.
2. is there a way to tell the loop to play x number of times? thereby saving lots of hassle in setting up songs or do i just have to copy/paste the required segment as much as i need?
Copy the parts, yes.

By copy-paste.

Or by dragging the parts while holding [Control].
3. I occasionally get a windows error message upon exiting: couldn't read memory at [string of hex] click ok to close or cancel to debug. Is this anything to worry about?
Which MU.LAB version are you using?

If it's 1.1, then are there any vst plugin editors open when you Quit?

If yes, that could be the reason, it's a little bug in version 1.1, which has been fixed in the coming version 2.0.

On 2, I'll just add... Usually the way to get a Sequence to play a given number of times is to make its containing Part long enough to contain that many repetitions. It should loop automatically all by itself, then.

(Parts are what you arrange in the Composition window. Sequences are where you edit events or samples. To put it simply.)

Hi, congratulations on your work

I doubt it
I can not find the time signature, I like play in 6/8,5/8, and I need change the tempo too 3 or 4 times.

Ok, I read this

"Right-click the Composer background = context menu -> Composition Properties Wink"

Composition Properties/beats per bar?

just that?

Post

You can indeed change a composition's time signature via right-click composition -> Composition Properties -> Beats Per Bar. This is set for the full composition.

You can add as many tempo changes as you want in a composition by right-clicking at the relevant time on the time bar -> Insert Tempo Change.

You can also edit the tempo changes this way.

You can also record tempo changes 'on the fly' by using the Tempo Slider: right-click on the tempo in the Transport Panel.

Hope this helps.

thank you very much. congratulations again for your work
I would ask about the grid. how to work with tripet resolution?

Post

To work with triplets, choose grid 1/12th instead of 1/16th ;)

i can't see all of the main menu, transport panel & part property panel. i can see most of the transport & part property panel. i only see the edit button on the main menu. i am wondering why this is. i tried to expand the window & that doesn't seem to work.

for example: i cannot see the composition loop button in the transport panel.

this is for both Mulab 1.1 & 2.0 Test E. I am running Windows ME if that helps.

thanxxx.

Post

Windows ME is not supported, sorry.

(what you could try to make the main window size bigger on Win ME when the normal ways wouldn't work:

-> quit mulab
-> goto the mulab/settings folder and open mulab.txt
-> there is a line MainWindowRectangle=x,y,w,h
-> change the values for x,y,w,h, then save and restart mu.lab)

Post

i tried changing the values. it didn't work.

i understand Mu.lab does not support Windows ME. Ableton won't install on Windows ME nor does Ableton offer any support.

i like Mu.lab. it installs & runs fine on my computer. so i should probably try to use it w/ this flaw. i can partially view both the file & help buttons on the main menu. most of the panel/toolbar i can see. so i guess its not a big deal.

That's strange :?

You changed the values after having quit MU.LAB, right?

As these values are only examined when MU.LAB starts up. And they're overwritten when MU.LAB is shutting down.

Post

yes i did. logged out. went to the Mulab text document. tried a number of different values. didn't seem to change anything. tried to change the composer view main window & even the menu font size. nothing seemed to change at all. window stayed the same. logged out multiple times. changed values. re-started. et cetera.

When I "Pull Out Of Rack" one of the built-in Synth or Effect where does it go? Especially when you work on it for a while, a new one is not such a good thing...to re-program.

Thanks

OK! Found It! Modular Plugin Area.
