I tried the demo version of Frequency analyzer multi and I'm not impressed, but I hope it's a shortcoming of the demo version.
I use Schope for this kind of work and I was hoping BC would improve on the concept. But, I found the spectrum to be extremely sluggish, like it's moving in slow motion. The display controls did nothing to improve this. Also, the knobs are unwieldy and hard to control. I have 3 instances running and it's very slow. I'm running an Intel Pentium IV 2.4Ghz PC with WinXP SP2, so it's not a case of running a slow computer. Hopefully it's a glitch with the demo version.
I had high hopes for this plug in, but the demo did not convince me.
First impression of FQA Multi

Hi,
thanks for your feedback. Your machine should indeed not be the problem (even though usually such issues could come from your video card but It guess in our case it's something else).
This is not a limitation of the demo either, it should work as fast as the registered version. Just for our information, which host application do you use? We noticed in the past that it could have an influence on display smoothness. And do you have all 3 instances user interface open at the same time? Did you use the window opacity feature? Do you find it "sluggish" even with one single instance of the plugin?
Please note that by default the plugin is setup with a long release time. Maybe you can try the following values:
- Precision: 7
- Speed: 200%
- Attack: 0 ms
- Release: 10 ms
- disable "filled curves"
Do not forget to route the "instant" curves to display the instant spectrum of the track.
BTW why do you think the knobs are hard to control? Did you try the "shift" key for higher precision and the double click to enter the values manually? How do you think we can improve this behavior?
Regards,

I'm using Nuendo 2 as my host. All my other plug ins run as they should with my current configuration.
I tried the settings you suggested but they didn't help. Also, I noticed my cpu spikes abruptly at intervals during playback. I tried running only one instance but Nuendo crashed as I was removing the inserts. This plug makes my system unstable. I'll have to remove it and hope the next bugfix runs properly.
thanks,
/m
oh yes, I think the knobs are too fast and they jump around unexpectedly. But again, it could be another bug unique to my configuration.

Ok thanks for the precision. We'll have somebody from QA double check in Nuendo. If you already have a scenario that can be reproduced for the crash we'd be interested. Anyway this should not occur, whatever your setup. It is unacceptable. I must admit we got Nuendo only recently here so it has not been our primarly application for testing.dragster wrote:I'm using Nuendo 2 as my host. About CPU spikes: this could be caused by the signal processing code itself (which is strange since it usually does not eat much CPU), or the display refresh. I already heard about perfomance issues on P4 computers for some algorithms due to their deep instruction pipeline. We need to double check we are not using such code that might execute much slower on P4 than other processors (like the AMDs or Intel Core and Core 2 which we mostly use in house).
It's true the default pixel range for the knobs may be a bit too small, especially if your screen has a large resolution. We'll try to improve this in the next version.oh yes, I think the knobs are too fast and they jump around unexpectedly. But again, it could be another bug unique to my configuration.
BTW can you tell me which version number is displayed in the plugin about box?
Thank you very much for your feedback. We will do our best to improve the quality of the experience on your machine and make you change your mind with future releases
