Analogue Sequencer (plugin style) features?

Here's the news
1) I always loved analogues sequencers
2) never could afford one
3) never found a software emulation (of Analogue Sequencer) to satisfy me
4) so I started to write one for NUSofting
5) the sequencer will be first released with daHornet update
Please brainstorm here about the features you would like to have, (and that you didn't find in other programs)
Please note that what I want to build must be a compromise between functions quantity and musicality = "easy to use" aspects
The first idea layout is a 16 steps, input transpose sequencer,
for each step:
semitone................[0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11]
octave..................[on off]
transpose...............[up down]
velocity + envelope.....[off on loud ghost]
gate....................[knob]
effects.................[off legato glitch]
controller..............[knob]
monitor................."led"
Master controls:
Rate Multiplier, Timing Easer, Master Gate

Well the GUI might look like an analogue sequencer...something like SAW studio...but only something, because the textures and "all colours nof rainbow" concept didn't look quite nice.

By "will be first released with daHornet update" do you mean it will be part of the daHornet plugin, or will it be a separate plugin release at the same time? Because if you could make an analogue sequencer MIDI plugin that is cross-platform, you will be my personal hero. I have, for ages, wanted to see a cross-platform sequencer plugin that can be used in modular hosts.liqih wrote:Here's the news

A manual clock trigger with step and hold modes. Meaning that in step mode, the sequencer only progresses one step forward for each note on message received and in hold mode the sequencer runs while note on is received and stops when note off is received. Hold mode should be set to start at either the first step or next step in the sequence.
The gate for each step should have a maximum time of always on so that when using the step trigger mode can be held till the next step is triggered.

This is my favorite sequencer app. Absolutely stunning flexibility.
Also make it optional to trigger a single note via the sequencer (say C3 for every step, or adjustable) and have the pitch parameter control pitchbend as opposed to note value. Oh, and CC sequencing in general!!!

I would say a really good starting point would be to look at the Vaz step seq, I personally like the way it uses sliders to control pitch, cc's etc.
the one thing that always annoyed me about many step sequencers built into synths is they are stuck to one pattern, the the option to have at least 24 patterns triggered by midi notes or such would be essential for me.

this is great news!!!!!
i think simply a TR style grid with separate rows of knobs for pitch, velocity, etc., would be my vote. something simple but effective.
please look to the Doepfer MAQ16/3 as a reference!

The MAQ and Oberkorn are pretty dope but I'd really like a software Klee sequencer, especially if it had the flexibility of Numerology (with snapshots controlled by note, CC or program change).dirty oscillators wrote:this is great news!!!!!

How about the holy grail of all hardware sequencers, the Latronic Notron? People who use it describe as an instrument in and of itself, that can be played and performed with in a way that is supposed to be more natural than any other sequencer in existence. I've always wanted one of these yet have never even seen one come up for sale and the current "Virtual Notron" is Mac-only and Max/MSP-based (blech!). Here is some info:

We were talking about the Korg Radias and Electribe modulation sequencer on another thread the other day. That thing is fantastic, especially the triggered modulation which really sets it apart from everything else. Any Electribe fan (like myself) should go crazy for a VST version of that.

I would prefer a sequencer in the TR style too.
For each function (gate, accent, slide) a row.
A defintion of the number of steps.
Perhaps for the defintion of the note a slider with a value-display( B3, C4..)
I would like to see a more conventional look not a confusing super modern look ( for example: not all parameters in a circle.That looks modern but it is not good for the workflow in my opinion.)
And I would be very happy if it would have a library with classic sequence
presets (in the style of Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, Klaus Schulze...)
