Unique's oscillators not sync'd

First of all, I would like to say I REALLY like the sound of Unique (I'm using the LE version BTW). I'm having a few issues with it though.

- One of them is that I sometimes experience problems when using multiple instances. I can't seem to replicate this for the moment, so I'll have to wait to post a sound sample.

- Another problem which bugs me alot is that the oscillators of the different waveforms don't seem to be sync'd to eachother. Controlling the sync of the oscillators would be a very cool feature, but now that it's not controllable, it's really annoying. A sound example of just the pulse and the sawtooth oscillators, no filter, no modulation, just eight notes that *should* sound exactly the same:

I don't know anything about soft synth development, but I reckon this shouldn't be to hard to fix in an update.

- Some other feature requests:
- better visibility of which controls are modulated and which are not
- more headroom
- a switch between different glide modes, this is ESSENTIAL to me

Love from Belgium,

Seppe

Hi Seppe,
we will look into this.
What do you mean by "more headroom"? And what are the glidemodes that you imagine?

- When you play a chord of three notes with only one oscillator, you can't turn the oscillator's volume over the half, otherwise it sounds distorted. A little bit more headroom (so you can play chords without turning the volume down) would be practical in my opinion.

- I would only need 2 glide modes, one where there's only a glide when you play overlapping notes (legato mode) and one where there's always a glide from one note to the next.

I've never used Unique myself...I'll take you're word for it that there's no filter/modulation, but it REALLY sounds like it. I guess the synth has free running oscillators, just like a real analogue synth would. Albino 3 also has a free-running oscillator switch, but from my experience, it doesn't make quite as big of a difference as your example. I guess it depends on what waveforms are beating together.

From the point of view of a producer --- it's as annoying as hell when you spend ages tweaking your synth patch, yet a note sounds slightly different every time you press it. I'm not expert on analogue synths, but I imagine free running oscillators is inherent in the design of an analogue synth - i'm waiting to be put right by an analogue enthusiast.

From the point of view of a listener, the slight difference in timbre with every note can be the difference between losing or keeping their interest. After all, the brain gets tired of repetition.

Hi,

please turn the "Spread" (in Midi section) parameter to zero.

The "Spread" intruduces detuning between the voices.
That will mean that if you press keys one after another,
these might sound a bit different.

With no Spread, all notes should sound exactly the same.

The oscillators are all synced to midi gate, so they restart
whenever a note arrives.

I'm sorry, but that doesn't seem to solve the problem. I'm using Unique LE version 1.0.0, the sawtooth and the pulse waveforms (a combination of 2 saws or 2 pulses does not give me the problem). I'm using Live 7.0.10 and the built in soundcard on my laptop (I don't have acces to my better soundcard here).

If it would help you, send me a patch of what works for you and I'll return the audio sample of how it sounds like on my system.

Seppe

Any news yet. Am I the only one with this problem?

Hi, we found the problem, it will be fixed in the next update, we
hope to get it released still this year.
