I downloaded my crossgrade licenses for Virtual String Machine and ImpOSCar; I verified that both licenses were now on my iLok. I then put the iLok in my Muse Receptor. ImpOSCar works fine, but my Receptor doesn't even show Virtual String Machine in the software plugins page. WHAT GIVES?

Tony - Did you download and run the Virtual String Machine installer from Plugorama?
If so, it should show up in the list of plugins whether or not you have the license on your iLOK (You just can't run it without the iLOK)
This is different than impOSCar, since the impOSCar software is already on the Receptor and you only need to
download the license.
