Hi!

Yes, I know, this sound is quite overused, but as I'm thinking of selling my PowerCore and therefore the Virus Plug-In, I just tried recreating some of my favorite Virus sounds with another softsynth.
I'm quite satisfied with the first result, so I thought, I'm going to share the preset. :)

A little demonstration :) (first Virus, then Zebra):

Sounds great, and thanks for sharing the patch. I may have mentioned around here a time or two before that I ended up selling my TI Snow because, after skimming through probably two-thousand patches on it, I just didn't hear it covering much territory that I hadn't already been able to travel to with Zebra. Maybe not precisely the same, but close enough to make the module feel a bit redundant for me.

Love the sound of this patch!

One thing that I discovered is that this patch sounds very different (to me) on Zebra 2.2 versus 2.3rc2, so use the latter to get the right sound.

Wow. I've never heard such an accurately copied patch from one synth to another. Nice one.

Thank you for your nice comments. :)

Maybe I will make one or two more...

When I open the link -Virus Overture- I get a list of what appears to be the raw patch data, not an .h2p file. What am I doing wrong?

an h2p is basically a text file anyay

Not to spoil the mood, but Virus demo sounds to me "faster" (if I can say it about a pad-like sound) and "rounder" than Zebra's. This is in Sony MDR-V600 cans. Will try the patch itself at home on my monitors and audio system.

No idea whether this is a faithful reproduction, but it's a really nice patch to be sure, so thanks for that!

Hi michkhol,

you don't spoil the mood, at all. The timing of the envelopes could be fine tuned even more as could the filter cutoff range. E.g. in the Zebra patch the bandpass filter opens up much further than in the Virus version.

The Virus version has also this certain vocal/formant character, which was almost impossible to capture (at least for me).

I was also impressed, when I realized that the Virus using two PWM OSCs with 2x unisono sounded rounder than Zebra with two PWM OSCs with 4x unisono per OSC.
Oh and btw. the unisono spread of the virus sounds wider, too.

On the other hand, I also tried two other "big" softsynths and they failed miserably in recreating this sound (but I'm not a great sounddesigner, too. ;)).

So far my thoughts.
