I don't have any other issues with that onboard soundchip (Realtek ALC 888), it works fine on anything else that's required sound thus far.
I got Mu.Lab Sequencer from a magazine cover DVD, so it's for sure a free version, from a couple of months ago (if required I can look up the issues etc and give more details), and it runs fine - but doesn't detect my hardware.
If I need a specific different driver, I'd like to know if that would have any effect on the existing set-up - eg, would the sound stop working elsewhere?
What is Mu.Labs looking for that ain't there in the current driver?
The other possible problem being that it doesn't just not detect the hardware, it doesn't give any selectable options to load in a new driver.
(this is running from XP SP2, on a regular x86 Intel quadcore, and the soundchip goes up to 7:1 speaker output, and it may be worthy of note that the 'Microsoft UAA Bus driver for HD' doesn't work with that chip, but it's meant to, and seems to be a problem for many soundchips in general - I had to use a different driver from the motherboard manufacturer, Gigabyte, the thread starter on this forum outlines the exact same issue (which I now can't find on Gigabytes website hence am linking this instead) -

I noticed that Gigabyte seem to have a newer driver than what I installed now available - it mentions Azalia. Maybe it's as simple as downloading & installing the newer version?

Hi,
mulab works with ASIO Driver, not with the realtek WDM-drivers.
You can install the free "ASIO4ALL"-driver.
http://www.asio4all.com/
Then Mulab will(normally
)work!
These driver do not affect any ohter application.
Have fun.
Hope this helps.
