hi urs,

started reading Uhbik on my iphone using amazon kindle reader - book was $7.99 and app was free. just writing to say that you are right to like this book. it's pretty good stuff. fascinating world he's painting.

right now i'm at only like the 3rd chapter, mrs. wirt is hiring inertials from runciters agency and runciter has spoken to his half-life wife, etc.

pretty cool.

if you have an iphone, kindle reader is pretty sick. it's the ideal interface, only needing one hand to read (so can be comfortable in a night-time bed situation even next to a pregnant light-sleeping spouse who cant stand the light emitted from a notebook on low, or a nintendo DS on low brightness)

anyway just saying thanks for the tip on the book. i'm thinking after i finish this i'll get "do androids dream of electric sheep"

Indeed, it is an excellent book. Was actually my introduction to PKD many years ago, found it at a rummage sale for $0.10 or something like that.

I made a book report on Ubik when i was around 17-ish. Got a good grade, even tough no one, including my teacher seemed to know what the hell i was talking about. Probably the reason he passed me

i can still feel the raised eyebrows of my fellow classmates on my person when i think about it, i almost felt guily for liking this book. Never gave in to stupid peer pressure tough... *shudders* dumb oafs...

Anyway, youth trauma's aside, you should really check out Phillip K. Dick's "A Scanner Darkly" if you haven't already. There's also a movie adaptation of the book, very recommendable. Here's a Youtube clip:

Nice! Thanks for that! Never knew R. Crumb did a Philip K. Dick story. Always been a fan of of Robert Crumb.

PKD, read everything, got mostly everything! TRUE innovator.

ubik is actually one of my favorites. eldritch i like too, for some it may be too weird.
I also enjoyed his many short stories. his later stuff (valis) became too religious for my taste.
