Hi everyone !

I'm enjoy using MU.LAB.

I like it's simple GUI.

Now I've been trying to use SideChainCompressor on MU.LAB.

First up , I downloaded free VST plugins "STSideComp"

made by STSoft (for mac only!)

and...

I can install and start them on MU.LAB as VST plugin.

But , I can't figure out where shold I put and connect this plugin on Modular -Plugin-Area.

For example ...

bass-sound in Rack-A

kick-drum in Rack-B

I want to mute bass-sound while kick-drum is playing. like FrenchHouse.

How to connect this plugin to make SideChain action ?

Is there anyone who use any sideChainCompressor-plugin on MU.LAB?

==== My found free sidechaincomp plugins ======

STSIdeComp (mac osx only)

DualComp (mac osx only)

SSS SideChain Compressor

It looks like MU.LAB only handles a single stereo pair as input and the SSS compressor, at least, expected two stereo pairs as input.

I think you need to look for an "old style" dual-plugin solution (where two copies of the plugin are used and they "talk to each other" behind the host's back).

I'm trying out 'SideChCompSt'.

First some other issue besides the routing itself:

Unfortunately SideChCompSt does not properly report how its inputs are grouped and so MU.LAB groups all inputs into 1 jack.

Some time ago we encountered a similar issue with another vst plugin that didn't properly report how its inputs/outputs were organized, and then we got the idea to add an option to manually remap the i/o of a vst plugin.

In M3 it will be possible to do so. In the below example i've used that feature to group SideChCompSt 's inputs into 2 stereo jacks.

Ok, so supposed we have a side chain compressor with 2 separate input jacks, then you can setup a kickdrum and bassline as shown here:

http://www.mutools.com/temp/SideChainExample.Png

And it sounds like this:

http://www.mutools.com/temp/SideChainExample.Mp3

First measures are plain bass, kickdrum is muted

Then the kickdrum starts but it fades in the mix, but it already goes full volume to the sidechain compressor, as you will hear, effectively ducking the bass where the drum kicks :)

Hope this helps, else let me know.

Oh yes, I remember. So if the plug reports correctly, it's possible to use it with multiple ins?

Works a charm.

Doesn't the modular view make it easy to do side chain type stuff?

I guess not

Post

It should do - it's not hugely different from Energy XT in terms of routing

Sidechaining is easy in the MU.LAB's MPA.

Cfr my above post.

Post

Note that in the example above, the amplifier between BD and Master is only there to fade in the BD so to make the MP3 example obvious.

I mean, the amplifier is not needed for the sidechaining itself.

Hope everything is clear and easy else let me know. Maybe i'm missing a point?

helped me alot. made the sidechain work on windwos using a plugin called compressive pro. its freeware and i found a link to it in another thread on this forum.
anyway, i wasnt used to working with plugins outside of racks, so this sidechain setup stuff kinda opened my eyes for other things too.

Does "SideChCompst" means Slim Slow Slider 's Side Chain Compressor ??

(it has red edit window)

I downloaded SSS compressor but ...

my label of this plugin in Modular-plugin-area , shows "SideChainCompst"

,not "SideChCompst" .

..and has only 1 input jack , not 2 as yours .

Are some setting nesessary to use?

Yes.

But you can use others too if you want.

Don't worry about that.

Please re-read my first post in this topic. It explains a problem with SideChainComp.

I don't find an email address of the developer, otherwise i would email him about this.
