FilterscapeVA and MIDI learn

Hello Urs,
I am a bit confused on how MIDI learn is supposed to work across instances of filterscape (FVA) (and for that matter perhaps Zebra as well).
I recently transfered a project from a laptop to a desktop machine but upon opening it the sound of the FVA instance was wrong. Shouldn't the MIDI controllers embedded in the sequence control the individual instance of FVA? This would make the DAW document portable.
As another example, suppose I MIDI learn controller 1 in one instance of FVA and save. If I then create a new document and MIDI learn controller 1 to be something else does that change my first document stored on disk somewhere?
Perhaps I am missing something here.
Jeremy

Yo Jeremy,
MIDI Learn is and was a step child because I never really warmed up with it. So there's only a global per-plug-in mapping.
I'm secretly working on an update though that has 2 x 16 x 128 controller assignments: 128 controllers times 16 channels times global and per patch assignments, with the option to have one rule out the other. This should do, but I havn't finished it yet because it also needs a spreadsheet view in the ui.
For now all you can do is move com.u-he.FilterscapeVA.midimap.txt (or whatever plug-in name you have) with your machine.
Cheers,
Urs

That's what'll happen with the patch based assignments, yes.SaganTech wrote:Why not just store the assignment(s) in the setchunk (VST) data?
Global assigments are good for people with serious gear such as the Jazzmutant Lemur. These people don't want to edit their assignments for each patch.
Patch based assignments are good for people with few controllers who need expressive patches. These people would MIDI Learn the XY controls and do everything from there.
Still, for some reason, people have additional needs and the new scheme will deliver. I hope.

Well, I don't know what version your filterscape VA is at (probably an alpha build of filterscape 7 or something with time travel and laser beams), but mine doesn't have XY padsUrs wrote:That's what'll happen with the patch based assignments, yes.SaganTech wrote:Why not just store the assignment(s) in the setchunk (VST) data?

I wasn't thinking clearly... must have confused FSVA with some other plug...
