Hi gang
I was hoping you all would be kind enough to help us sort through some nomenclature discussions we are having here at Muse Research Central. The discussion is getting rather spirited, which is good, but at the end of the day, we are designing products for you all, so I think its only fair for you to have a say in what we call things. (!)
The discussion centers around the use of the term SOURCE on Receptor future little brother, MuseBox. We hear from some users that the term SOURCE is simply not a comfortable term for them, being that its kinda unfamiliar. We think it makes sense, since the source can be an audio input, or a virtual instrument, or a UniWire input, and it seems to work for us but many people are not comfortable with our choice of words here.
We were thinking maybe it should be INPUT instead, but that suggests audio and although that would be great when you use Receptor as a guitar processor or effects processor, its maybe not appropriate for its primary role as a virtual instrument player. You don't think about calling up B4II by selecting an INPUT, do you? Or do you?
Then we were thinking we can just call it CHANNEL, since there are multiple channels in the device. But CHANNEL is very much a mixing / recording term, again getting away from the fact that this is first and foremost a music instrument.
We were thinking perhaps it should be INSTRUMENT, which certainly appeals to keyboardists, but alienates guitarists who will use it for running amp models.
I've found the kvr Receptor community to be extremely helpful and very creative, so I'd love to hear anyone's suggestions...
Thanks

Starting from the Receptor GUI's main page, if you click on what is now the SOURCE slot, renaming that to INSTRUMENT makes sense to me. If you click on an effects slot, naming that EFFECT makes sense. Wouldn't this work for VSTi's and guitar amp simulators (effects)?
I'm not in front of my Receptor at the moment, so what I just said (going from memory) may be pure hogwash and totally confusing! Sorry if this mucked things up!

INSTRUMENT is the best choice, I am sure. For guitarists also will be instrument since they are choosing guitar input as source so still it is before amplifier similar to live situation.

Instrument is the first thing that came to my mind, but I'm a keyboard player. I think source is still a reasonable compromise of terms. I can't say that I've ever had a problem with it, but I'm a keyboard player
I have other problems!

I agree with the last few posts, INSTRUMENT makes sense to me. I am a multi-instrumentalist (which means I strive to suck at everything equally
) but I primarily play keyboards and drums on the Muse and that label makes sense to me too.

Hi Bryan,
SOURCE works okay for me. Referring to the Receptor Remote Viewer, I think you could have EXTERNAL SOURCES (what you currently call audio sources) and PLUGIN SOURCES.

Sky

A little late on the reply, but I'll vote for "instrument". And if the firmware can be updated, I'll vote to purchase a beta.
