Hi all,

I'll be on vacation for a week, so take this new beta with a grain of salt:

[edit] New thread: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=262885

The Win version is known to crash under certain circumstances, but never on my machine. it'd be interesting to see a pattern here. Other than that it should be as stable as it gets.

Here's what we've got:
  • faster ui opening
  • collapsible preset folders
  • right click presets to tag as Favourite or Junk
  • shift or option/alt click presets for multiple selection
  • drag presets to move into folders
  • option(alt) drag presets to folders to to make copies
  • various bugfixes
  • sharper text rendering on Windows
  • Zebrify
  • new init preset for Zebrify
  • option for latency free operation
  • option for gui editor

UI Editor

If you want to use the gui editor you need to download some files:

http://www.zebrasynth.com/download/Z2EditorFiles.zip

The UI Editor is a very powerful tool that helps modding Zebra's user interface. It should work with skins. You can basically move things around, change colours (Press "C" on Mac, I think F2 on Win), use a lot of right-click on all sorts of elements. Press Esc to switch between edit mode and control mode. Richt-click in the empty grey space to save changes.

Don't expect me to write a manual for this. The best possible bet is a video tutorial once I'm finished with Zebra 2.5 later this year.

No-Latency Mode

This currently only works on Mac versions.

As you might know, all my plugs work with a latency of 16 samples. This is needed to be compatible with all hosts and still be able to heavily optimize cpu usage.

You can create a preset "default.h2p" in your root presets fodler and add the line "!BLOCK_LATENCY_OFF=YES". If your daw/driver/environment supports fixed buffersizes which can be divided by 16 (e.g. 64 samples, 256 samples, 512 samples), this option will turn off Zebra's 16 samples plugin latency without problems. If your environment sends odd buffer sizes (i.e. 103, 97, 1000), then you'll harvest some screeches and crackles.

The Z2EditorFiles.zip (see download above) contains a default.h2p which is prepared for this, just change !BLOCK_LATENCY_OFF=NO to !BLOCK_LATENCY_OFF=YES

That's it for now, I'll start packing bags for Italy :)

Cheers,

;) Urs

Thanks alot for the upgrade, can't wait to try it out.
Have a good time in Italy.

It's fairly amazing how prolific you are, Urs (in contrast to some developers who seem to take forever to do the simplest of updates). I'll take this for a spin once I finish mixing my current track.

Enjoy your vacation! 8)

May i suggest a small feature: can you make it ctrl+drag to copy a preset instead of alt. This is the standard windows shortcut for copy dragging stuff.

Post

Thanks Urs!

I second what Kyran said. CTRL-drag is the default for copying on Windows, and would make more sense to me.

Sigh... not yet sure... a ctrl-click is a right-click for me (uhm, Mac head here), hence the whole modifier scheme in my stuff is based on that. If I make ctrl-drag possible, the Mac folks will loose their ability to right-click :oosp:

We'll see...

Post

I can live with alt-drag. :)

I don't want to drag you down with petty requests. I'd rather drag you down with bigger problems, if I can find any.

Try creating a Zebra and a Zebrify in Reaper and then switch between the two guis a couple of times. Can you make it crash that way? :-o

I believe it was yesterday I said to myself, "Eh, think I'll hold off before rearranging my preset library. Urs says he's working on collapsible folders...I can wait another month or two....

Just take care... make backups first...

It works fine for me but Tasmaniandevil has the phenomenon that each preset ends up in a random subfolder of the one he drags them to... bizarre stuff... :-o

Isn't it possible to make the modifier keys different on both platforms? It's what quite a lot of other apps do.

Alt+drag will make it harder for users to discover this functionality (I'll try ctrl+drag and if that doesn't work I'll think copy dragging just isn't implemented)

In the end it's your call ofcourse :)

I will check things out... maybe I can do something...

Hi There!
This is all fantastic, but I've run into an issue with Ableton Live that you might want to know about.
When using 2.3.2, the qwerty keyboard mode (where the qwerty keyboard becomes a psuedo-MIDI keyboard) works like a charm.
In the new version, however, once I click anywhere in the Zebra GUI, the Ableton keyboard stops responding. I have to click back in the Ableton GUI to be able to 'play' the qwerty keyboard.
This is an issue with some other vst's as well (I think it has to do with whether the vst can receive key input (maybe the new browser functions have something to do with this).
I really like to be able to create patches and parts without lugging a keyboard everywhere, so this definitely cuts into my efficiency.

Again, beautiful job otherwise!

Hi Ben,

I'll check into this. Another thing that's not yet in are host-specific preferences.Maybe I can smuggle it in there... what platform is that?
