Hello Urs

Hope you had a good break and are well.

Sorry to report something. I was using 2 instances of Zebra 2.3.2 inside SONAR 8.3.1 today (nothing else loaded at all...no effects/bussing) and experienced a problem with the second Zebra making an unholy kind of zipping/doubling noise when played.

Both were set to absolute basic 'init' preset and default skin as to demonstrate the issue here. I have attempted to make an mp3 of the 'noise' and also uploaded a screenshot.

That in itself shows nothing out of the ordinary, except it was Zebra (second instance) that was the 'naughty' one.

Here (if it works!) is the mp3: http://www.mediafire.com/file/ijzem51zthm/Zebra Noise.mp3 (edit - ok it works) Sound 1 is ZEBRA 1. Sound 2 is ZEBRA 2 (The baddie)

Actually, a few days ago i was in another session where i did have 3 Zebra's working - and i had a couple of effects going on as well...thought nothing of it - everything was going fine until i noticed a sort of 'rusty' 'grating' sound coming when i played one of the Zebra's. I just presumed it was a moderately taxing project and decided to bin it. Subsequently, it appears there may be more to this than i first dismissed, especially if it is only happening with 2 of them - and nothing else loaded!

Anyway, sorry again to bring more work! :? I have held off going to 2.3.3 up until now, and wait for the official release...should i try it, or hang on?

Many thanks

Post

Just tried the same thing with 2 Zebra's again - same result :( One of them (the second instance) sounds like it is being played through a distortion unit.

Any chance to see this one Urs?

I'm looking into this asap. I'm currently making my way through emails and stuff that came up during my little holidays...

Could you send me a project file that I can load to reproduce the issue? That would be an absolutely great help here...

Thanks,

;) Urs

Can't replicate this in Logic or Reaper (PC and Mac)
Could be Sonar thing, or something else on your machine.

Well, it sure sounds like a buffer problem.

Hmmm... it could be an accidental MIDI learn on some weird parameter though.

There's a thought..... :?

Ive never had so much trouble as with this pile of cr@p. Anyway, sorry Urs to bring yet more problems.

No worries, im sure it will be sorted in the end.

I have sent you the Project files from SONAR Urs.

Urs any word on this issue - i'm still getting these noises on quite a few occasions...

Sorry, my Sonar NFR has expired. I'm still trying to figure out what it could be.

Are you using the Renderer feature in the more Osc tab on any of the oscillators?

Post

That was a good suggestion....But no, there is no Renderer enabled.

Thing that gets me is, the issue comes and goes in a highly unpredictable way. One minute im plagued with it - the next session might well be problem free.

Toggling the on/off switch in the Synth Rack (SONAR 8PE) Does...quite often get rid of it. Its like there are 3 Zebras playing at the same time, the tone is thickened. But one of them is panned slightly off centre, sounds 'grating' and detuned a bit - if that makes any sense.

Anyway, i will continue to monitor things and let you know. Hopefully v2.5 will eliminate this. (Its like Zebrify is making itself heard at the same time, kind of)

Just experienced this same effect in FL Studio. I don't remember it happening before. Load up a second instance of Zebra and it's very much distorted. I'll see if I can replicate the issue again...................

................Yep, I can reproduce it here quite easily. Simply load a second instance of Zebra with no other fx or plugins and the second instance is distorted in FL Studio. I'll try to reproduce it in Sonar, Reaper and Orion. I probably didn't notice before because I rarely use the same synth twice in a project..........

Very quick testing. Simply loading up more than one instance of Zebra using the initialize preset: No problems in Orion, Reaper or Sonar but the issue is reproducible in FL Studio each time (tried both "fixed buffer sizes" and not).

Thanks Tek,

Will give it a try soonishly!

Relief to hear somebody else has this (well...you know what i meant)

It is definately happening in SONAR 8.3.1 as well. I tested in Orion and Reaper 3.05 and can confirm Teks report - it doesn't happen there.
