Zebrify - howto retrigger envelopes

I've been having fun playing with Zebrify today. The pitch-tracking on bass guitar is actually surprisingly good (good enough that I'd almost like a mono MIDI out). But what I couldn't figure out and what I'd really like is a way to retrigger the envelopes (both normal and MSEGs). Is this at all possible? Basically, I'd like some way to connect the transient detection to envelope retriggering, and I can't for the life of me see it.

Currently the only way to trigger envelopes is via MIDI... I had the hunch that it'd be good to use transient detection but I havn't sussed that out yet.

Aaaah, OK. Well hopefully you'll manage to suss it out one day (I'm not expecting an immediate response knowing your self-imposed workload) because it's a bit tricky to supply a MIDI trigger when standing up and playing a non-MIDI instrument. Yes, I am trying to use Zebrify as a cheap-arsed, demented bass-guitar synth.Urs wrote:Currently the only way to trigger envelopes is via MIDI... That's one of teh more obvious usesblurk wrote:Yes, I am trying to use Zebrify as a cheap-arsed, demented bass-guitar synth.
Try using an envelope follower instead... that should already do quite well...

Aaah, yes. I should have mentioned. I am already using the envelope follower very effectively for the duration of the notes. That works fine. The request for retriggering envs is more for getting some of those more synthy filter sweeps and other modulations happening. Yes, I know LFOs can help here but I guess I'm after the effect where I want some movement in the attack and decay stages before settling into the long sustain I get with the envelope follower. If that's clear?Urs wrote:Try using an envelope follower instead... that should already do quite well...

mind to share some presets? didnt come along with zebrify so good sadly(due to my lag of knowledge how to use this tool i guess) ...maybe needs some inspiration..
thx!

Yeah, sure. I have put some up at my general patches page that I created for the Zebra patch competition entries. Please note that these are by no means polished, they are only my initial experiments with Zebrify. But they do show the pitch tracker and envelope follower in action. It's more what I plug them into that is rough.Zork wrote:mind to share some presets?

Just reviving this topic. I can work around this to some extent by using an envelope follower in Bidule to trigger a MIDI note to send to Zebrify, so this can retrigger the MSEGS etc..
I'd still like to see Zebrify be able to retrigger internally, since it clearly already has transient detection and its own envelope follower.
Edit: I originally wrote the following statement but suddenly it is working now: The problem now seems to be that I can't see the envelopes entering the release phase. Does Zebrify do anything with MIDI note off events?
Edit #2: No, I wasn't imagining it. I've now somehow got Zebrify back in a mode where it ignores MIDI note offs. I can see it stuck in the loop stage of an MSEG.
Edit #3: My latest observation is that Zebrify's MSEGs don't (always) go into the release stage upon a note off, while the vanilla envelopes do go into the release stage.

The MSEGs keep looping when there is no point after the sustain/loop. They jump into release only when there's anything happening there.blurk wrote:Edit #3: My latest observation is that Zebrify's MSEGs don't (always) go into the release stage upon a note off, while the vanilla envelopes do go into the release stage.

Hmm. That's not what I saw. I have an MSEG with points after the loop, and it stays spinning in the loop. It's Zebrify v2.3.3 if that makes a difference.Urs wrote:The MSEGs keep looping when there is no point after the sustain/loop. They jump into release only when there's anything happening there.
(Inevitable) edit: Well, I've gone back to look at the patch, and indeed there is an MSEG with points after the loop end that stays stuck in the loop but if I activate another MSEG, the new MSEG does release (while the first one is still looping). I have trimmed this down to a test patch. Seems to be related to the MSEG trigger being set to mono (I only just figured this out). Any reason why that should make a difference?
