Just want to say that I've been using SonicBirth 1.3.1b2 with every Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) beta versions since the June WWDC release and it's been working without a hitch.

Hey just downloaded SonicBirth and am VERY excited to use it (I've been using Max and Pd for a few years now).

However, the application won't open! It seems to crash on start. I was wondering if this is a Snow Leopard thing but your post seems to dismiss that...have you had any similar issues?

Same problem Dan...

Post

I've got the 1.3.1b2 version running on PPC and Intel Macs 10.5.8 and Intel Mac 10.6.1 without any problems. The only thing I could guess is that maybe the permissions are not right on your HD. Try repairing them.

Also, is the "SonicBirth.framework" in the /Library/Frameworks/ folder?

- Daniel

Post

Repaired permissions, but still nothing.

Probably not a problem, but the framework is in my root library, not my user library.

Thanks for responding pal! Any other ideas?

The framework is in the right place. What is console system.log is saying when you start SonicBirth?

Only seemingly interesting thing I get is:

Nov 2 14:36:53 Macintosh-204 mDNSResponder[17]: mDNSPlatformSendUDP sendto(8) failed to send packet on InterfaceID 0100C000 tap0/4 to 224.0.0.251:5353 skt 8 error -1 errno 6 (Device not configured) 3240800382

So I tried reinstalling and I got several of these errors in the console...it's a little to exotic for me to understand.

11/2/09 5:09:43 PM SonicBirth Installer[12028] Error while deserializing: Conversion of string failed. The string is empty.

Again, THANKS!

Is Rosetta installed with your OS 10.6? Maybe the SonicBirth installer has some residual PPC code in it. If Rosetta is not installed, install it and then try re-installing SonicBirth.

Tried opening with Rosetta but no change....

Hey I don't mean to keep buggin' you about this; do you know if there is a better place I can ask rather than, apparently, just asking you? Thanks so much,

Post

As I said, I wondered if Rosetta was installed on your system and if that could have an impact on the installation of SonicBirth, not the running of it. I suspect that something is off with your OS, but I would not know what exactly...

This forum is probably the best place to ask question about SB.

I'll prepare a package tomorrow containing an already installed SB app and framework that you'll be able to install by drag & drop.

Amazing Daniel!

But for the sake of completeness, I installed Rosetta from DVD and reran the installer. The console error went away, but STILL sonicbirth doesn't respond when I try to open it...ugh.

Anyways thanks a lot pal.

OK this is getting ridiculous....

...it still won't open. Now the console gives me no errors, and I've installed Rosetta and tried to open your app using it.

Ugh. Any final suggestions? This is really pissing me off at this point.
