Uncle E wrote: Sun Jan 12, 2020 7:19 am Sorry, what I mean is you'll rarely (if ever) hear the same sample twice in a row if you're playing the part. 32 velocities means a different sample ever 4 velocity levels and people don't play that consistently.
But you're assuming people are playing their notes in... and unfortunately, I'm encountering more and more people less willing to play in their notes, or are of the type to play in once, then copy/paste sections so most velocities levels triggered are consistent.

Then again... a piano library would hopefully appeal to the piano player, so I hope you are right! 8)
"Humanize"/randomize can vary the velocities. Tested the White Grand---10% "chaos" in Bitwig wasn't enough, but 15% was.

Also tested with Orb Composer (AI trained on virtuoso instrumentalists iirc); by default velocity seems to vary by within 3 points a significant part of the time, and in those cases lack of round robins is audible when two of the same note are played in a row (... and I'm listening for it).

Post

Tried playing White Grand with two Seaboard blocks... it's not difficult to play single notes consistently enough to hear the lack of round robins, and the jump between velocity layers is jarringly audible if playing rapidly. Confirmed by creating consecutive midi 16th notes at 4% velocity difference (100/32 = 3.125% per layer assuming they're evenly distributed). Perhaps 32 velocity layers isn't enough to take the place of round robins (though an arbitrarily large number of velocity layers would eventually match the tiny random variations in each strike...). But the lack of round robins isn't usually very noticeable in a more complex composition or a mix.

Sorry for my ignorance - I`m just using pianos in a band context and never needed (or looked for) ultra realism - but I can`t remember having read about round robin when reading about piano libraries (drum yes, but never pianos) ?!?
How many round robins do libraries like the NI pianos have then ?

Just be sure to check the voltage is still set to the 9V default before you connect 9V pedals to that b-stock power supply.
Wasn't the case with my 2 latest power supplies!

Finally a Jupiter 4 instrument to play with :)

RRP 599 Euros, intro price 399 Euros, upgrades may differ based on what you own, but I can get it for 199 Euros.

Looks like the intro prices are up until the end of January.
I do own 2 of the included synths plus a ton of other uvi stuff.
My upgrade price is 349€, which is quite a lot (a bit too much for me to pull the trigger).
I got a 40€ loyalty voucher waiting in my account, still 309€...

Do these extra vouchers for owning PX10 show up in your profile (vouchers page) as well or did they only send them out via email? Had my newsletter preferences disabled, so no email vouchers for me... :/

I think something is wrong with your price. I have 3 individual instruments from VV3 and my upgrade price is $299.

Not that I am upgrading, but I would suggest you to contact support if you are interested.

Noire has fewer velocity layers (22) and no round robins. In retrospect, it should rarely be an issue.

Many piano libraries do have round robins though. For example:

Spitfire Hans Zimmer
Impact Soundworks Pearl Concert Grand
Strezov Sampling Lipp Grand Piano
VSL Bosendorfer Imperial
8dio 1928 Scoring Piano (probably others)
Orchestral Tools' The Grands

Some piano libraries work around this by using a technique called "neighbor borrowing" or similar, which essentially means they pitch shift and play the corresponding sample of the neighbor note on repeat.

Korg Legacy Collection Special Bundle v2 upgrade (for owners of v1) is 149$.

For 99$ it would have been an instant buy after playing around with the Triton demo a bit.
For 149$ I'm hesitating as these are not per se the sounds I'm using on a daily basis...

What do you guys think, will there be a better offer/sale from Korg within a reasonable amount of time or is the 149$ as good as it will get?

Sounds right to me if you don't have VV1 or 2 then it would make sense if 3 of the included instruments gave you a better upgrade price than owning 2 of them. If nothing in the 'ton of other UVI stuff' is part of VV3 then it wouldn't affect the upgrade price.

Are you safe?

Yeah, the "other stuff" is Falcon + Expansions and almost all of their Suites as well as effects. Still I'm a bit disappointed and will pass this one - waiting for good sales on individual instruments I'm interested in.

$149 isn't even an on sale price, I believe?!

It's on sale ("Special Price") with $100 off for newcomers to buy the full bundle, or $50 off the indivdual.

Disapointingly, no similar "Special" sale price for LOYAL CUSTOMERS tho? Not "Special" enough?

I agree, price should have been $99 (with a "special" limited introductory $50 off price), IMO. No rush, it will be $150 forever to upgrade, until there's a another 50% off deal...
