I don't understand how they are supposed to work...

many older patches, like MK's Breathy Flute A, either don't work or sound different in 2.5 mode. I can understand patches made with new 2.5 features not working in 2.3 mode, but not the reverse.

does this mean I have to separate (or label, yikes!) patches by mode from now on? (like keeping a pre-2.5 folder and post-2.5 folder)

also, i chose the 2.5 mode to browse the FLARE Soundbank by Nick Moritz, but everytime I change patches it goes back to 2.3 mode. ???

Most patches will sound the same in both modes. Some will not. These are mainly volume adjustments and to some extent different sounding filters. That's why any patch saved with Zebra 2.3 or earlier will switch Zebra 2.5 into 2.3 mode:

You load the patch - it's a 2.3 patch - Zebra switches to 2.3 mode.

ok on how the 2.3 patches should work, but...

I was using zebra 2.3 when I first tried runray's FLARE bank. the GATE patches didn't work so I installed the beta and they worked. I concluded the GATE patches are 2.5, but they play in 2.3 mode

in fact, I just clicked through all the FLARE bank patches and zebra stays in 2.3 mode for all of them. He said "some of the sounds were created with the help of Zebra 2.5"

Looks like that's just because the switch is a toggle - it isn't meant to show what state the patch is currently in. Would be useful if something did though.

The 2.3 mode is for the features that were *changed*.

Features that were *added*, e.g. in the Zebra 2.3.3 beta are available in both modes.

I have to check these gate patches to see what it is about...
