Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone has used the Tascam FW 1082 with T2 or T3.
I need some help getting Tracktion to be controlled by the FW1082.
Any suggestions?

I know it's been a while since you posted, but I just noticed your post. I use the Tascam FW-1082 with Traction 3 (albeit on a PC).
Most everything can be programmed as a custom control surfaceif you want, but I found that method pretty frustrating and time consuming.
Best thing to do is open up the FW-1082 Control Panel and switch the Control Protocol under Settings to "Mackie Control Emulation." Then, on the Tracktion 3 Settings page go to the Control Surfaces section and select "Mackie Control Universal" in the supported control surfaces. You will need to select the FW1082 as both the input and output device at the bottom.
The color selection determines what color the tracks change to when they are synced with the Tascam's moving faders. You can use the Tascam's bank selection keys to reassign the faders to different tracks (1-8, 9-16, etc).
Playback controls work well with this setup, but the Locate and Set In/Out buttons are synced with Tracktion's master fader section (E-to-E and Snap) instead of the Marker track like you'd expect. The cursor keys work though for scrolling.
To my knowledge, the Tascam's EQ section is useless because Tracktion does not have a dedicated EQ like Cubase. I got the FW1082 for its decent pres and faders anyway, so I pretty much use it in conjunction with Tracktion's shortcut keys and it works fine.

I know this is a long time to reply - but I was trying to get an answer for a friend with one, Well, after a long time not getting anywhere, he let me borrow it. I got it to work. Thanks for your help.
It works far better in native mode in Logic and even in MCU mode in Digital Performer, it seems to have a lot more functions, but - still - i got it to work in Tracktion, which will make my friend happy.

Just for the archive's for anyone using a Tascam FW-1082... (I copy/pasted this from another reply of mine about the Tascam)
It's March 2016 now and I've only just began using a Tascam FW-1082. The mode I tried 1st was the Tascam's own 1082 within it's control panel, and Tascam US-428 within Cubase, which works well with the most basic of transport functions, except the arrows on the 1082 don't function, nor jog wheel.
In Mackie mode it works ok with Cubase, and all functions seem to work, however when I use the arrows on the Tascam to move up/down selecting tracks, I keep quick bursts of screeches on instrument tracks, and also the left/right arrows trigger those instrument tracks sounds. If I'm still on any instrument tracks, pressing START, STOP etc, also triggers whatever instrument is on.
HUI mode seems to work just as good as the Mackie mode, but WITHOUT those annoying screeches, so I'm now using the HUI mode.
It's only been less than a couple of weeks that I've been using the Tascam FW-1082, but the main issue I'm still having is that this thing doesn't want to respond to anything right away to the laptop that I'm using it with...no audio, or responses. I have to restart the 1082, my laptop, open/close Cubase numerous times before I basically get LUCKY and it starts to get 'catch'. When it finally does, the audio is always choppy for several minutes as it has intermittent pauses in PLAY mode...gradually, and after a while it get's better, and then remains PERFECT.
It doesn't seem to be a warm up thing, because if it's on say 1,2, or even 3 hours...as soon as it get's turned off, and even immediately turn it back on, I have to go through the same process of getting it stable.
I've tried different combinations of powering order, and nothing seems to make any difference. If there's a magic procedure I haven't found it.
Oh, one more thing. Just yesterday I discovered that if I click on the speaker icon on my laptops task bar, I had to be sure in this dialog box that the Tascam's I/O's were set properly. I did find that the s/pdif was set to my default play back. I'm not so sure that this makes any difference within the DAW software, but probably more like using the Tascam for other sound purposes. Either way, I set it. I DID work within Cubase before I saw this after all. It certainly didn;t help the issue of getting it recognized & stable period.

If you are using windows 7 or later Microsoft has a hotfix for firewire.

I'm using Tascam FW1884 since Tracktion 3, now Tracktion 6 64 bit and Windows 7 64 bit.
I'm using Mackie emulation and it's functioning but have to restart Windows, when I have used Windows audio or Asio for all.
I haven't tried the FW1884 with the latest Traction 6.3.1 update. It should solve problems like that. But maybe not the Tascam problem.
The problem with the Tascam FW is that the drivers hasn't been updated for years and that Tascam stopped updating the drivers all to soon. Very bad service. So sad because FW1884 is a fine machine with good preamps.
