A first MU.LAB 3 test version has been distributed to a limited group of testers.

This topic can be used to group all feedback, comments, bug reports, questions etc... regarding the M3 test versions.

The M3 test versions will have version numbering like 3.0.0, 3.0.1, 3.0.2, ... 3.0.12, ... 3.0.28 until we have a rock-solid and gentle MU.LAB 3 which can be released.

The changes per test version will be listed in "mulab30-test-changes.txt" in the same webfolder as the test packages themselves.

ahh, with all the love that mulab gets from its developer and users, v3 will no doubt be even more solid than a rock!

here's the step-by-step of a crash i get after deleting a sequence. tried it on two different laptops, so it's genuine:

create new sequence >> right click sequence >> delete sequence >> right-click sequence >> now, with drop-down menu open, double click the sequence again >> CRASH

there are a couple more senarios for this, but it seems like they all have the same cause, and this one has the least steps.

Got it, thanks, fixed in the next test version.

2 more things i mentioned before:

1) right-click a VST plugin loaded in a rack >> toggle process on/off >> NO GRAPHICAL INDICATION

2) the auto-coloring system is great help. it just feels perhaps a bit too random. i create a new sequence and it's red. cool. now i delete it and create a new one and it's white. perhaps it could follow a certain color scheme? the way that the subtrack colors relate to main track colors on the other hand is great. this is just a thought, i will report if i make a better idea of it.

Lovely!
M3 begins to feel like a new landmark.
The key editor feels better than XT, and for me it is quite important.

Couple of bugs::oops:

Moving the tracks into the empty space deletes them and sometime even when moved around in a new position.
The later is not consistent, only here and there.

Moving the last Mixer's Strip to the right into the empty space = Crash

Observations:

The Track Mute/Solo is very small and it is too easy to activate the Choose Target menu.

The context menu in the Key editor opens up completely and the default choices are far away from the mouse pointer and not ready available as in the Composition Context menu.
It could make you a little dizzy if working with mouse only input tool...

Double click again on the Plugin name on the Mix Strip could be use to close the plugin. A very quick way to check things out.

I love the Double click for adding new notes and parts however you could cover both styles of work by adding, if possible, for example, a modifier key (Shift) to implement One Click action for adding/delete a Note/Parts.

I also noted that by double clicking with the Pencil Tool on the end or beginning of a Note/Parts deletes them. That's great!
It feels really efficient.

Some have commented about the Part-Target issue.
I kind of missing it. It saves Display Real Estate and control, and of course it makes the Free version less powerful due to the limit of tracks number available = less plugins.
But I am for new ways to do things better OVERALL.
Yes it was great feature though!

So far Jo, I really like the way its feels and I am confident the the final initial version will mark a great new beginning into new users as well as the old loyal ones. :D

Some more:

Also dragging the last Track down into the empty area crashes MuLab.

Editing a Shortcut makes it go away. Deleted.

BTW I love the Shortcuts. I am a grid maniac and now I can just changed and turn it on/off on the fly (and it works while you drawing the note!).
And the 128th.. Thank you.

- the per part target thing was a great feature, I want it back !
- I have done some more tests with the key shortcut system : I add a new one, I push a controller on my midi keyboard, Mulab detect it, I select a function (I have tried with play/stop, rewind) and close -> the shortcut is in the list but I doesn't work. I have tried the same but with the PC keyboard keys : it doesn't work too.
Can I make a request : it will be nice to have a play function and a stop function, not only a play/stop function...
- I have big problems with the Event Graph Editor : as I have said before, if I right click and choose "select all" the event are selected and then if I hit "suppr" nothing happen. Also, when I draw lines, the GUI take 4 or 5 seconds before reflecting what I do, so it's unusable...
- another big thing for me (I'm french, my keyboard is AZERTY) : when I type some text, Mulab behave as if I have a English keyboard (QWERTY).
- when you open the editor of a native mulab plugin, the preset name is empty in the plugin editor window.

Jo, you know I am not a ToolMaker user but mostly ToolUser so I tend to ask for features without having to think about technical challenges.
That is your job and you are quite amazing in implementing features without deforming MuLab simplicity.

I was thinking about the Target/Part issue.
When I work in XT a use (sometime) multiple targets per track (coming from Reason Combinator heavy use) but XT do not have the Part/Targets feature that MuLab HAD....

I used to use the MUX to engage multiple plugins for the same Part but then I discovered that I could use the Track's Rack and use a Sends to several Rack for each Plugin that I needed for the part. I hardly use more than 3 Layered Plugins so the 6 mixer slots was enough.

So I was thinking if with your new architecture we could Send a Part through the Track (to keep it the way it is now) to different Racks.
I sound like before but maybe technically it's approachable with your new system.
In other words a Part would have a Send built in or something on these lines.
I am giving numbers here? :nutter:

Minor display glitch:
Edit->VST Manager->Add VST Plug-Ins
After the first time, once I've selected Program Files\VST Plugsins\blahblah, the next time I open the Add screen, the selected folder is always scrolled off the bottom of the display. Also, the keyboard focus doesn't seem to be on the listing until I click the scrollbar.

Minor display glitch:
I disabled a VST plugin and it greyed in the rack. When I enabled it, it didn't go black in the rack... But it's black now and won't go grey again! I didn't notice when it turned back black, unfortunately.

<edit>
OK, more than a display glitch. It gets confused. I now can't enable a Fasor plugin. It's greyed. But on the popout it's green and enabled! It's not processing, though.

If still possible and needed I would like to volunteer to also beta test M3. I'm a registered M2 user. I have some spare time for it now and hope to come up with some usefull bugs catches/requests :)

Any chance? If not, no problem though

Really minor glitch:
The "OK" button on the "This is a test version" box doesn't respond to Space or Enter, even though it appears focussed.

Someone may have mentioned this. I set up a send, renamed the target channel. It stopped working. (Not sure if that's related.) Now "Select Send Target" doesn't do anything.

minor sampla issues:

- peak, low shelve and high shelve filters in sampla have messed up guis.

- sampla's filter and amplifier menus include a 'monitor audio input' option. nothing happens when i click it.

the shortcut system issues were mentioned before, but here's my take on it. the system works great for me, the shortcuts are easy to setup and functionality is flawless so far. the only glitch i've noticed is that editing a shortcut deletes it instead.
