hello - i've searched this and most other forums.
but it might be quicker to ask here...
basically recording (vocals) in mu-tools, via asio4all, has turned bad.. like 8bit 12khz style (with no paula chip)8(
recording in any other program (audacity etc)is great. ie not using asio4all.
i'm realising this is a bit off topic, but it worked fine and dandy before...
i'm whingining because mutools -makes- me use a4a i cant even record in a different program...then import the vox.
i'm using a rubbish computer and a rubbish soundcard, but it used to work fine.
yes latest drivers etc. tweaked asio4all...
hope you can help, or flame me...
cheers

Hello Wuxmedia,
System Requirements
* Windows NT, 2K, XP, Vista. + ASIO driver!
* Apple: OSX 10.4 or higher
* Powerful CPU
* Graphics resolution 1024 x 768 or better
* Good soundcard with good driver
Just drag and drop the audio file into Mu.lab's composer view and thats all
If you have a serious interest in making music (with Mu.lab or any other host) my suggestion is that you get an asio soundcard, there are some really cheap avalaible on the market and believe me that this would be a great buy for you: low latency when playing virtual instruments, higher compatibility, less cpu use than with asio 4 all, higher quality recordings etc
Hope this helps,
Juan
First of all, look at Mu.lab's system Requirementswuxmedia wrote: basically recording (vocals) in mu-tools, via asio4all, has turned bad.. like 8bit 12khz style (with no paula chip)8(

I sometimes use a rubbish laptop with asio 4 all and Mu.lab and it works fine except for some audio glitches that i also have with other apps using asio 4 all. I never tried to record audio with asio 4 all though.wuxmedia wrote: i'm using a rubbish computer and a rubbish soundcard, but it used to work fine.

hello Juan,
first thank you very much for your prompt reply.
i'm not sure if i explained myself properly.
all the sys requirements are ticked...
when i said the sound was bad, i didn't mean it wasn't as good as a pro mic in a pro studio on 24bit/96k, or whatever.
I mean it sounds like it's been bitcrushed. 8bit
direct through the soundcard sounds great...
i sat for 40 mins trawled the asio forums only one post, no replies 8(
btw i didnt explain that, while it is possible to import sounds, i was thinking more of playing the backing track and recording elsewhere, which is still possible if i 'export' the backing track and play on winamp then record, then import... prefer the more direct route...
btw i hope to get a new soundcard -soon-
i was just moaning because it worked totally fine before. we've recorded several albums on the same rubbish computer/soundcard. 8(
anyway thank you for spending some time typing. love mu.lab (was a big fan of muzys, back in the day)
cheers

i will try the older versions of a4a...I am having some weird issue with my mic input. When I record or monitor in my DAW, using the latest asio driver- the sound has some weird issue. It sounds like it is in an oil can or some weird phase issue is going on. I am just using the mic input on my laptop, which I only use for scratch pad ideas. I know it is the asio driver that is causing the issue, because when I switched to another driver- there was no mic issue- it sounded clean. However, there was a big latency issue, which can not be fixed- I tried a variety of settings

Hi wuxmedia
Could you please give more detalis so that others can reply you?, like: Mulab version, A4a version, soundcard etc.
... since you're using asio4all, i would doubt about that, but anyway i'm not the dev so i can't give you details on a4a support in Mu.labwuxmedia wrote: all the sys requirements are ticked...
... i assume you've checked connections, input level etcwuxmedia wrote:when i said the sound was bad, i didn't mean it wasn't as good as a pro mic in a pro studio on 24bit/96k, or whatever.

I'm not sure to understand what you mean here, my english is a bit basic. If you're saying that you want to record a new track while hearing a previously recorded track the answer is yes. Just hit the record button (setting recording preferences with a right click on the record buton) with the audio recording enabled.wuxmedia wrote: btw i didnt explain that, while it is possible to import sounds, i was thinking more of playing the backing track and recording elsewhere, which is still possible if i 'export' the backing track and play on winamp then record, then import... prefer the more direct route...

hi Juan, thanks again, or muchas gracias for replying
i finally ripped out the card - a hercules gamemuse something or other...
yes i know, poor to say the least, but it was free.
so using the onboard ac97!
which regardless of performance -has- recorded the vocal as i wished...
and yes upgrading to a half decent card - a mate has promised me an old SB live - for free!
this is music making on the cheap to say the least.
so you were right in advising a decent setup.
with regards the recording - i was thinking of a workaround, back in the old days (apple mac) i used to have a beat running in 'the background' in say, hyperprism vst, this would make a backing track, then record incoming audio in a different program (soundedit16)
which as you pointed out, is unnecessary, in mu.lab working normally.
which it does now. although poorly
so thanks again, great forum...
happy music making.
