Making Piz work in Sonar

I recently discovered the Piz MIDI plugins through a post at the Sonar Forum.

I've experimented with various settings in the .ini file, with the Sonar plugin manager --but so far I'm not getting the .dll files to work. Often have had crashes during my experiments also.

So - thought I'd go right to the source and ask if there's simple instructions for making these work in Sonar, or if it's perhaps known that they aren't compatible with Sonar - Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

they're supposed to detect Sonar and set themselves up correctly, so you shouldn't need to do anything with pizmidi.ini. how is it exactly that they don't work?

tell me one plugin in particular you would like to use, and i'll do some testing... they worked last time i tried, but i don't remember what version Sonar that was, nor do i remember how to set them up.

Thanks for the reply! -

They are seen in Sonar as VSTis, so we have to insert them on Audio tracks. Fine. I set up a soft synth, put one of the plug-ins in the soft synth's Audio track FX bin - the signal is blocked, nothing comes out.

Someone at Sonar posted instructions that he was guessing at - involving having a special Audio track Only for a plug-in, and a blank MIDI track, also only for the plug-in. Then the two tracks needed for the soft synth, routing through the other set ups--plus turning on "echo MIDI out" in Sonar's synth rack. - Sound Did emerge this way, but with no effect.

I'm not trying to get one of your plug-ins in particular, I'm just curious to try them out. I have the whole folder in my Sonar VST folder.

I also edited the .ini file since your instructions were to refer to the host's name.

That's the brief version of all the things I've tried.

it sounds like the plugins are loading correctly at least... it's possible that not all of them will work well in Sonar due to the way it handles midi output from VSTs. also keep in mind that several of the plugins are set up to do nothing with their default settings.

Thanks much for the reply.

Over at the Sonar Forum, someone got them to work. It involves setting up a dedicated audio track and MIDI track for the plug-ins, and that's something the regular tracks need to loop through. We can't use the plug-ins directly on a track.

Yes, some plug-ins seemed buggy, like we couldn't get Strum to work correctly. The guy at Sonar got the keyboard split, 3 zones to work fine.

Thanks for the info that some of the plug-ins come up with defaults that don't do anything. I hadn't assumed that.

I'll be playing more with them, now that we've found a way to use them in Sonar.

Thanks again.
