Patch Change Affecting Only One VST

Hi,

I'm sure this can be done, but I can't figure out how. I would like to control my Receptor with my Roland Axis. It can send patch change info via midi, as will as other control changes.

1. Can I have the Axis control just one VST via midi? Say, have Atmosphere assigned to midi channel 3, and the Axis would be used to change patches only within Atmosphere? In other words, if I send a patch change message to Receptor, it will affect only Atmosphere, and change the different patches within Atmosphere, without affecting anything else in Receptor?

2. Can I use the Axis to control just two VSTs? For example, if Atmosphere is on midi channel 3, and Pro-53 is on midi channel 4, can I use the Axis to change to midi channel 4, and change the different patches only within Pro-53? And then use the Axis to change to midi channel 3, and change the different patches only within Atmosphere?

As you can guess, I have some experience using controller keyboards connected to rack synths, but my computer skills are more limited. I am hoping to use the Receptor in a similar way as I use my rack synths.

Thanks!

Hi Mychal,

Yes - you can do this. I often use multiple midi controllers (merging their midi outputs before sending to Receptor's MIDI in). This is a quite nice way of having a setup for live play, because you can organize single (or groups of keyboard functions) to certain controllers on certain Midi channels. For example, I often use a weighted 88 controller for Piano (Ivory, EP, Clav, Rhodes, DX EP, ...), a synth weighted 76 controller on top of that (for Brass, strings), and a left side controller (for Organ, synth pads, ostinatos, ...).

On each channel (by default), you can send bank numbers and patch numbers, that typically select a Receptor "Single" preset. A single is a Receptor channel strip preset that controls the vsti that is configured to that strip, the preset for that vsti, the midi channel (including note/velocity filtering and transpose), and up to 3 vst fx applied to the vsti.

If you wish to bypass the Receptor preset mechanism, and control the vsti directly (eg. change patches, change realtime CCs) you can toggle a system setting on Receptor to do this.

This is a quite flexible system for setting up layers/splits as well as handling multiple controllers.

Hope this helps. Regards,

Thanks Kevin, I appreciate the help!

One other question - I can't believe I can't figure out how to do this. How do I erase Multi Banks and Patches, so that they are returned to an Empty state?

Thanks,

Hi again, Mychal,

You should be able to delete these from the patch/multi menu. You might have to do it in 'save' mode (I can't remember). EG. Go to the Bank/Patch select for a single, hit the button for save. The menu will bring up the list of everything in the bank. At the bottom left of the menu, there should be some button options - I think one of these is delete.

One other thing to keep in mind. If a patch has 'brackets' around the name, that patch (or bank) is locked. You will need to 'unlock' it before you can delete it.
