Controlling volumes

Hi,

I know I can control the volumes of each instrument of a Multi, sending CC7 to the corresponding midi channel. That's what I'm doing to control my volumes.

BUT: If I want to control my plugins with midi directly, I must check the option "Route midi CCs to Source plugins" in the Setup. What happens next is that CC7 is sent directly to the plugin and it is then impossible to control the Remote Control volumes. Moreover, for some plugins, CC7 doesn't appear to control the volume at all...
One more thing: I tried this with Lounge Lizard. I can control the volume with CC7, but it doesn't really control the volume button in the plugin. So, when I save the Multi and recall it, the volume parameter is not taken into account, so my sound is way much too loud...

So, if I sum this up: either I can control my volumes with CC7 in a multi, but I can't control any other plugin parameter, or I can control the plugin parameters (if I check the option "route midi ccs bla bla bla") but the volume control doesn't always work...

Is there anything I'm doing wrong or I misunderstood? Or is it the way it should work?
How do you guys manage volumes and source plugin parameters?

Any suggestion welcome! Thanks in advance!

Demierra

PS: I'm using one single master keyboard with 8 sliders assigned to Midi CC7, with midi channel 1 to 8 to control the first 8 instruments in a multi.

Demierra,

We did actually work out a way to control Plugin parameters when using CCs for the mixer. It's sort of a reverse MIDI-learn thing where 16 CCs are set aside for each source plugin, and those can be assigned to any parameter within the plugin. Heres how it works:

1) Make sure Receptors 'mdidi ccs to source plugins' button is OFF, then load a plugin. Go to the 'edit view' so you can see the interface for the plugin

2) In the center at the very top of the screen are 3 small buttons. By default the left one is 'highlighted'. This is normal plugin edit mode. Just to the right of it is a button that has an arrow pointing down to a mini icon of Receptor. Click on this to enter revers midi learn mode.

3) After enabling this mode you will see a grey box in the top right hand corner that reads 'change a parameter'. Now move one of the virtual controls on your plugin like a knob or fader. If captured correctly you will see the name of that parameter in the upper right hand corner of the screen (for example moving a filter cutoff knob should cause filter cutoff to appear in the upper right hand corner of the screen)

4) If that is the parameter you'd like to assign press the button with a down arrow just to the right of the parameter name in the upper right hand corner and a number will appear. This means the parameter has been saved to the first CC set aside for plugin use in Receptor's mixer. To view what this is click on the number and you can see the list of all 16 available. It'll show you the CC number to use when controlling it as well as the midi channel you need to send on. As your setting this up you can move things around or swap places with other parameters.

Hope thats not too confusing, and if you have further questions feel free to open a support ticket at plugorama.com

Thanks Kevin,
That's perfectly clear. I was aware of that possibility and tried it, but I wanted to have a more complete control over my plugins... But after all, I don't need that many parameters at the same time, so that's the way I should go.

One more thing: what if the plugin parameter is not captured by remote control. If I remember well, some plugins do not work that way... I can't check right now, but I think Atmosphere doesn't work with reverse midi learn mode...
