T2 and 64 bit Windows 7?

My computer is seven years old and I really need to replace it now. I still use Tracktion 2 and love the ease of use, so I would prefer to keep it. But will it run under 64 bit Windows 7? I'm planning on getting the Pro version of W7 so I could use it in XP compatibility mode, if that's necessary. But what about plugins? Will they work or do they require 64 bit versions?

On a general level, 64 bit Windows should run 32bit applications just fine. If you're running a 32 bit app then you should be fine with your existing VSTs.
I know of people running the 32 bit version of Cubase in 64 bit Windows, so Tracktion ought to be fine.
Caveat: I haven't tried!
You might want to get hold of the Tracktion demo and see if a shop will let you temporarily install it on a 64 bit machine.

Excellent suggestion rich. Though the xp compatibility mode is essentially just a vm'd xp installation, so I don't think you'll have too many problems there. Make sure your motherboard and CPU support hardware-level virtualisation by the way, otherwise XP compatibility mode won't run.

I've just installed T3 on my 64 bit i7 and it works fine (better than it did on my XP system so far). However the main thing about T2 is it's not multicore aware so it will only use one core - on a i7 that means it's only using a quarter to an eighth (if you count hyperthreding) of your processing power. Even if your new system is not an i7 it will no doubt have more than one core. The upgrade to 3 is cheap - the only real annoyance for me was losing those lovely arrowsStuttaton wrote:My computer is seven years old and I really need to replace it now. T2 Working here on my new Win 7 Pro 64bit quad core machine. No need for XP mode so far. And single core tho it maybe at 4.2Ghz it's pretty snappy.
But, it's only demo mode since my.mackie is not working!!!

This seems to happen periodically - send an email to them - they generally get it sorted within a few days (and until then everybody panics that it is ultimate proof of the complete end of tracktion).

I'm going to get the Asus P7H57D-V EVO and the Intel Core I5-660.
Does Intel have a fancy acronym for hardware-level virtualisation?
I'm thinking the I5-660 will run single threaded apps quite fast thanks to it's turbo mode. Is this correct?

That's interesting - so could I install a 32 bit driver and run it in compatibility mode?metamorphosis wrote:Excellent suggestion rich. Though the xp compatibility mode is essentially just a vm'd xp installation, so I don't think you'll have too many problems there.
