NUSofting Modelonia 2.0 Public Beta (currently win32 VSTi, file name modelonia_1.92.dll)

Modelonia is a powerful "physical modeling" synth which uses a hybrid of
two distinct model 'types' - a plucked-string model, and a blown-bore
(ie trumpet-type) model.
Each model may be used simultaneously, and the signal path allows
cross-modulation between the two models for more
interesting and complex tones.

Please note that for many presets the modules named "String" and "Horn" don't always sound like strings or horns, since the resonators can be used interactively, therefore you can simply think of them as resonator 1 and resonator 2, abstractly.
The same goes for the "exciter" modules named "Pick", "Noise" and "Lips", you can call them exciter 1, exciter 2 and exciter 3,
"Pick" is an impulse generator, "Noise" generates filtered noise, "Lips" generates a continuos tone which is modulated by the "Horn" resonator.

What's new in Modelonia 2.0

Sound Engine Update and Upgrade

1) Two macro sliders are now available for realtime sound morphing:
Gain macro linked to MIDI CC 45 by default
XM macro linked to MIDI CC 46 by default

2) The "Smooth" switch has now a different function:
up to Modelonia 1.8 it was used to change the ADSR shape, now in 2.0 it turns on
a set of DC filters that change the behaviour of both models Strings and Horn.

3) The "PE" switch has been extended to a knob control.
up to Modelonia 1.8 it turned on the "pressure emitter" in the Horn exciter,
now in 2.0 it adjust the PE in the right half turn (marked with a green curve),
and it switches to an alternative algorithm when used in the left half (marked with a red curve),
this new feature take better advantage of the external exciters, relatively to the "Lips" module,
those are the Noise module and the String module via "XM to Horn".

4) The harmonic waveshapers controlled by the "Modif" switches A and B, in the Horn module,
have been updated. Especially the B type features now a more filtered sound.

5) The "coupling fx" (the "CP" switch in "String" module) features now a stronger
harmonic enhancement.

6) The A/B switch in the FX module adds now a soft Chorus to the Reverb, Chorus can be used alone as well, with Reverb mix at zero.

7) The bottom pane with the microtuning sliders is now hidden by default,
when then microtuning selection is hidden
four VU meters, AP EQ and the macro sliders are showed.

8 ) New powerful equalizer in the output fx chain. This new AP EQ features two fully adjustable
shelving filters.

9) Vastly improved Mono Legato mode for enhanced realism in solo playing
of wind instruments and similar hybrid ones.

###

Such modifications allow a great new range of sounds, previously unheard.

Betatesting was started in November 2010, suspended in January this year for other jobs,
now we're again on it and the Windows VSTi is mostly ready. Stay tuned

i really wish i have more time... :( ..good luck .

Hi liqih,

How much time do you need, per week? A few hours here and there or a bigger commitment?

I love the player and this would be a good opportunity for me to get the real deal, since I'm broke, but I don't want you to feel cheated. I could put in a few hours a week using it (about 2-3 hours a week) testing and reporting bugs, but not a huge amount of hours.. I'm a stay at home dad... But I can sqweeze in some hours late a night ;)

yes 2-3 hours a week should be enough

I'd like to sign up for beta testing then :)

Windows 7 64-bit (i7 920) using a 32 bit host: Fl Studio 9.1

I was a beta tester for Sonik Synth 2 and Guru, to name two.

Hi Luigi.

I already own Modelonia but I could test for 2.0 if you want an extra tester.

However, since I made slow progress with Scarborough Fair and haven't tested it in awhile, you may want some new testers with more time.
I still don't have a good understanding of the controls on SF.

Jim

Post

Thanks Jim, Scarborough Fair has been frozen while I finish with Modelonia update

I thought you might be too busy with your other projects.
You know where I am if you need me to test.

Hello Luigi.

My main workstation: Windows XP SP2 32-bit, Reaper 3.72.
Also I can combine beta testing with making of a demo-track (my works is here).
The cat has four paws: in, out, ground and power supply )

Thanks, I forgot to add that the betatesting phase should be completed before Christmas and it will start possibly the next week.

Awesome Guys! I haven't the time to beta-test but i can sure support by purchasing the end product.

Yes, but I'm not sure about the prices yet, now I'm spending a lot of hours on the Mono Legato mode, <grin>
