Sylenth's Amazing Portamento

So I have found that Sylenth implements great sounding portamento. What exactly is is doing? I mean I know it's allowing for a pitch bend from note to note but I can't quite seem to recreate it with my other synths that have portamento or glide settings.

Is there a particular type of implementation it uses. For example, using Ableton's sampler I can't get a similar sound... even if it's in multi sample mode.
