ACE patch contest #2

Simple rules - must be an ACE patch, and must use the 'mono', 'legato', or 'duo' voice modes. Last contest was great, and can't wait to hear your patches this time around!
Submitting:
- Submissions should be entered before the 29th of November. You may submit one or two patches.
- I can accept submissions at xh3rv DOT andrew AT gmail DOT com, or through PMs on these forums, or beamed from secret government satellites into the alien probe in my duodenum.
- Submissions shouldn't have your name, however if you can include your name on KVR with the submission e-mail / pm, I have no excuse when I screw that up HiHi
- The submissions will be compiled in a set posted after the 25th, with a one-week voting period.
- Winners receive some free u-he software. As seen in this thread , it's not like this is some trivial thing. Urs has exceptional karma with users, this is an example why.
- Any patch submitted will become public on the u-he patch library, with no restrictions on usage, forever.
Friendly tips:
* Enjoy ACE!
* Check the volume and CPU usage - if your patch is around where the factory library is at, you'll be fine. Problems here can be more obvious than the good qualities of a patch - stuff like clipping or CPU meltdown is not pleasant.
* Any amount of info in the patch details can really clue people in to how to get the most from a patch. Patches with very little or no info tend to be overlooked.
* Not -every- patch needs to be sensitive to velocity, modwheel/pitchwheel, or other MIDI CCs, but having some of these is a good way to make a patch more interesting. It's possible to impress voters with good mapping, or the opposite with no mapping.
* There aren't really any guidelines for voting - all votes are appreciated, and however one decides which patches stand out is the right way. A little feedback explaining votes is very welcome as well, just keep it real Razz.
* I will do my best to answer -any- questions posted here, pm'd, emailed, or telepathically implanted. Feel free!

Just wanted to leave a note that I've gotten submissions from a few people - I haven't replied, but I have gotten the messages. Been a rough couple weeks ... OTOH it tends to unlock a more expressive approach to the keys ...
About one week to go!

Ya, it's time to send those submissions in, 48 or so hours to go. I won't say much about how many patches have been submitted so far - it's really pretty random how many come in towards the end, usually it's a lot more than prior to that, so if I said anything it wouldn't really reflect a later state of things.loquat wrote:When does this contest get started again? Is it the 29th? How many people have submitted so far?
Let's get some mind blowing patches

Hmm, the deadline has been and gone and no word from Andrew - in fact he doesn't appear to have been around for at least a couple of days (a pm I sent him on Sunday is still in my outbox). I hope everything's okay.

Internet outage last night as the building I'm in is getting vast-wasteland-digital-cable-300-channels-so-I-never-have-to-think-again installed - I'm on campus right now which is not a suitable place for going through submissions, I'll have this stuff up by the end of the night though even if I have to do it from campus though. Sorry for the delay!hakey wrote:Hmm, the deadline has been and gone and no word from Andrew - in fact he doesn't appear to have been around for at least a couple of days (a pm I sent him on Sunday is still in my outbox). I'm really excited about this patch contest too, but this is a labor of love by xh3rv supported by a great developer.hakey wrote:Great!
EDIT: Not so great, last night has now been and gone - what's the delay Andrew????
Let's just chill out and be grateful that contests like this are even being run.

Well I started the ZPCs in the first place, so I know fairly well what's involved and it's really not that difficult, or time consuming; at least the gathering and redistributing of patches certainly isn't.loquat wrote:Let's just chill out and be grateful that contests like this are even being run.

You're right it doesn't sound like there is a ton of work that goes into organizing a contest like this. Hell the contestants probably spend more time tweaking their patches to "perfection" than the organizer does collecting and distributing them. I just wanted to express my gratitude. I'm happy that there is an active u-he community on this forum and that there are even incentives to participate in it.
BTW What is up with this contest? Is it dead in the water?
